Happy Tuesday- hopefully you're staying warm today. Here are a couple of quick answers to questions that we are getting several times per day: Q: Do I need to do anything about the next stimulus check? A: Currently we know as much about it as you do- very little. So, no there's nothing to do about it right now.... Q: I got the first stimulus payments, what do I need to do? A: Let your tax preparer know how much you got on each one. Q: Will I be taxed on my first two stimulus payments? A: NO. Q: Will I be taxed on my unemployment that I received in 2020? A: For now, yes, plan on it. There's a bill that has been proposed that may change that, but it's a long way from becoming an act. IF this changes, we will let everyone know. Q: Will the tax filing date be extended this year, like it was last year? A: Not that we know of. We don't think so. Q: Can I count my dog as a dependent? A: Also no. Thanks all. Hey folks- quick reminder...when you do your 2020 income tax return, you will need to know 1) if you got either economic impact (stimulus) payment, and 2) how much you received. Yes, even if you got the second one in January 2021, it will go on your 2020 return. Remember- these are NOT considered income, and they are NOT taxable.
