May is Better Hearing & Speech Month! What is a Speech-Language Pathologist? A speech-language pathologist (SLP) is a highly-trained professional who evaluates and treats children and adults who have difficulty with speech or language. Although people often think of speech and language as the same thing, the terms actually have very different meanings. If a child has trouble with speech, he/ she struggles with the how-to of talkingthe coordination of the muscles and movem...ents necessary to produce speech. If a child has trouble with language, he/she struggles with understanding what he/she hears or sees. A child may struggle to find the right words and/or organize those words in a meaningful way to communicate a message or hold a conversation. Monett Schools Speech-Language Pathologists Early Childhood: Carrie Zahn MES: Morgan Hastings and Suzanne Sloan CPE: Elizabeth Stotlemeyer MIS, MMS, MHS: Janice Krallman *Fun Fact: 40 million Americans have communication disorders. Our School Resource Officers are an asset to the Monett School District. They protect us from harm, are present when needed, and guide us to safety! We rely on our SRO's for more than protection. They build long-lasting relationships with students and guide them through different stages. We are grateful to have an amazing Monett Police Department that ensures Monett stays a great place to live and grow a family.
