We absolutely loved hosting the Missouri State FFA Livestock CDE this weekend, along with some excellent MU CAFNR staff and students! Thank you to all who helped put on a great contest for the members and to the livestock providers who graciously allowed us to borrow their animals. We love these opportunities to provide education and livestock events to Missouri’s youth.

The team finished the spring season on a high note at the All-East Livestock Contest at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA. It was three full days of hard work and excellent livestock, and we are thankful to McNeese administrators and faculty for hosting despite all of the hardships southern Louisiana has faced this past year. We took a smaller team than normal to the Nebraska Cattleman's Classic but it was a rewarding trip nonetheless! The team was on point with their scores on the floor in Nebraska. We look forward to the last contest of the year in Houston in a few weeks!

The team had a great day with practice stops at CSU and Grand Hills Cattle. We sharpened our eye for sheep and goats at CSU's equine center and then were impressed by the tremendous quality of the Charolais cattle at Grand Hills. Thank you to the hosts and we look forward to our first contest of the year on Thursday!

We had another great day of practice! We started the morning off with the Peckman family, working through some heifers. Next we headed over to M&R Genetics and studied some breeding gilts. Finally we made it safely back to campus and worked on our oral reasons with Ty Peckman. We leave for Denver Monday morning!

Livestock Judging Camp came to an end yesterday afternoon. Within our two and a half days with the campers, we went over all the ins and outs of livestock judging. Monday and Tuesday was full of learning and judging classes of swine, cattle, sheep, and goats. All the campers participated in our mock contest that we put on for them yesterday and they all did exceptionally well with placing their classes and talking their reasons. It was a great group of campers and we’re glad... that they came to learn with us. We would like to send a special thank you to Sydenstricker for allowing us to come to their operation and look at a couple classes of bulls and heifers. Another thank you to Bailey Abell for being our guest speaker on swine and Ty Peckman for being our guest speaker on goats. Thank you to all the campers that came and everyone that helped run camp. Also, campers if you did not see your reasons score yesterday and would like to know, email me at [email protected] See more
