Mizzou Biology 23.01.2021

MizzouBiology alumna Kirsten Carlson, B.S. ‘90, is a member of the Antarctic Artists and Writers Collective, which is launching an online exhibition this week, titled Adequate Earth: Artists and Writers in Antarctica. The exhibition features works by former participants of the National Science Foundation’s Antarctic Artists and Writers Program (AAWP). Kirsten was awarded an AAWP grant in 2017 to sketch under-ice habitats of the sea floor in Antarctica. At a virtual opening ...reception this Thursday at 6:00 PM ET, Kirsten will be featuring a series of her underwater drawings and the process of transforming them into undersea illuminations. The exhibition runs through May 22, 2021, and will be accompanied by a series of eight virtual events, which you can read more about at this link: https://www.aawcollective.com/adequate-earth-events. All events are free and open to the public. Registration for active participation is required on aawcollective.com/adequate-earth-events. All events will be live-streamed.

We congratulate Madison Billingsley, Jordyn Moaton, Michael Osher, and Grant Stokes for graduating today with departmental honors. The Honors distinction is awarded to graduating seniors who have completed a year-long research project under the supervision of a faculty mentor and have presented their research at a public forum in the form of a scientific publication while also maintaining a high GPA. Congratulations to Dr. Paula McSteen, she has been elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. McSteen is a professor in the Division of Biological Sciences and an investigator in the Christopher S. Bond Life Sciences Center. Election as a AAAS Fellow is an honor bestowed upon AAAS members by their peers. This year AAAS named 489 new Fellows in recognition of their extraordinary achievements in advancing science....
