GUESS WHAT? "OLD MAN" -- NOW OFFICIALLY NAMED SAMUEL -- IS IN A WONDERFUL FOSTER HOME AND STARTING TO LIVE THE GOOD LIFE! Look at his face -- soooo happy <3 What a transformation! . We took him yesterday for a meet and greet with his new foster mom and two senior dog sisters -- and now he's got a soft place to lay his head for the rest of his life. Thank you, Amy!! <3 . With all our hearts, we thank the dozen or so awesome people who stepped up to offer him a home -- people... from Missouri, Kansas, Wisconsin, Nevada, and more!! YOU ARE ANGELS with huge hearts, and we don't have enough words to tell you how very grateful we are to you. <3 . We also now have a more complete picture of Old Man Samuel's health. The main problem is spondylosis, which is a fusing in the spine. It's progressive and eventually robs them of the ability to control their back legs. But on top of that his back leg muscles have atrophied from lack of use, which is due to the combination of spondylosis and malnutrition/ starvation. The plan is to gradually strengthen his muscles with short, frequent "trips" around his foster home and yard, using a back-end lift as needed. This, along with good food and nutrition, will help lengthen his life. And until the spondylosis progresses to the point where he no longer has quality of life, Samuel is going to be loved and spoiled to the max! . And a fun fact: one of his foster sisters is Zena, a senior MOGS dog who was also on the verge of death -- could not walk and was starved to a skeleton when she was seized for cruelty. She’s’ the black shepherd in the pictures. That was over 3 years ago and today she’s still loving life ;-) We hope Old Man Samuel has as much life ahead of him to enjoy. . LILY PARVO UPDATE: GOOD NEWS ;-) She's doing great and recovering nicely! Everyone at the vet has fallen in love with her -- it's kind of impossible not to. She finishes her quarantine tomorrow and the plan is for her to go to a foster home to be sure she's stabilized. THANK YOU VERY MUCH for both your support and your prayers that helped her beat this! The photos aren't great because taken through the window of the parvo isolation unit. Applications for Lily are closed as a number of people have already applied to adopt her. .

HERE WE GO AGAIN - ANOTHER CRUELTY CASE! THIS TIME A BEAUTIFUL GSD MOM AND HER EIGHT 4-WEEK-OLD PUPPIES. Holy crow! Mom and pups were seized from a breeder after Animal Control got a complaint that the male and female breeding pair, and their babies, were starving, had no food or water or shelter, and were out in the snow and cold last week with no shelter. . The pups appear to be purebed. Sadly, all 8 of them and mama Sienna were literally starving. Every rib on mama Sienna ...stuck out and she dove into the food bowl like she hadn't eaten in months. The pups did the same, even with hard kibble which is unusual at just 3-4 weeks old. All were desperate to eat. The pups were not only underweight but loaded with worms -- so badly that their bellies, which would normally be swollen due to the worms, were sunken in. We started the pups on dewormer, they pooped out massive amounts of worms, and they'll get regular dewormings. The pups were also full of adult fleas and flea eggs, so we've treated them for that as well. And after several days of frequent small feedings, both Sienna and her pups are now starting to eat at a slightly more normal speed. The pups had no energy at first and just laid in a huddle, but now they're starting to show normal puppy activity. All good signs that they're stabilizing. . Sadly, Animal Control refused to seize a male who they thought to be the dad, saying he didn't look underweight. So he's still living in in the same bad conditions. That's against the law for a good reason, but Animal Control apparently thought it was fine to leave him there. It breaks our hearts to think of him outside, by himself and in bad conditions. . Breeders in this situation typically go get another female and repeat this same cycle of cruel treatment. Please join us and pray for this dog . We're calling this family the Mandalorian Litter after the popular Disney TV series. The pups are all named after characters in the show, with 6 females and 2 males. 11-YR-OLD CUTIE PY UPDATE -- our sweetheart is doing great! She had a fast-growing tumor on her foot, between her toes, and had to go through surgery. It was cancer, but the good news is they were able to get it all, got clean margins during surgery, and she's now fully recovered. Way to go, sweet Cutie! The anesthesia was hard on her and she was 'drunk' for quite a while post-surgery, but she's in a wonderful foster home being showered with comfort and love. We'll be closely monitoring her, checking her thoroughly every day or two, to see if any other tumors develop so we can get on top of them immediately. But we're hopeful she'll stay free of this junk and live the good life for a long time. If you're looking for an absolute doll of a senior to adopt, she's your girl! MEET YOUNG, ENERGETIC, GOOFY YOGI - about 1 yr old, dumped by his owners, and in love with life! This boy loves all people and seems to like all dogs. He adores, adores, adores playing ball with you or with another dog, and loves for you to chase him while he plays keep-away. He needs to learn manners -- he gets super excited and will jump -- and has typical untrained young GSD behaviors. But he's learning to sit and even wait at doors. . He's currently in boarding due... to lack of available foster homes, and the fact that he's making progress even there tells you how smart he is. He's also met a doggie buddy, 6 yr old GSD Molly, and the two play and play like they've known each other for years. He shares the ball gladly with her despite his obsession with it, and that's impressive too. He's a goofball who apparently just wants to party, enjoy, and share the fun ;-) He must have a doggie playmate who can approximately match his energy level and play nice. . ARABELLA IS ADOPTED!! Be still our hearts. <3 Our special 8 yr old girl went through major surgery and ended up with a massive incision in a hard-to-heal spot between her abdomen and leg. But she's tough and a-mazing -- and defied all the predictions by healing well. And now? Now she has her Happy Beginning! . Her story makes us especially glad for her happy new life. She and her 6 yr old sister were dumped in a shelter by the owners. Understandably the girls were c...ompletely disoriented and freaked out. We had to put them in boarding due to lack of foster homes, and it was hard on both of them but tey adjusted. Then Arabella tried to dig out of an outdoor kennel area, injured herself badly, and had major surgery. We found a medical foster for her and she did great with her foster mom and doggie siblings. (And don't worry about her 6 yr old sister Molly, who found a playmate she adores in boarding.) . And now a wonderful MOGS alumni family, who sadly just lost their MOGS dog after many years, has opened their heart and home to this very special lady. Arabella now has a wonderful new home with a dog buddy, a big fenced yard, and fantastic new parents to make the rest of her life comfortable, love-filled ..... and permanent. . CONGRATS to adopters Marla, Tom & family -- Arabella deserves the best and now she has it! HUGE THANKS to medical foster Audra and crew -- you brought her back to health! And also to our incredible volunteers on our Boarded Dog Team, who took amazing care of this freaked out, escape-prone lady! PARVO PUP LILY UPDATE. Lily is on the upswing! She's eating / drinking, taking meds, and still off fluids. Especially good news is she's more alert and showing some energy. It's still early days yet -- she has to stay in the parvo unit another 11 days -- but the prognosis gets better each day. She's far more alert than we've seen to date. If she continues this way, we'll be thrilled. She will have to go to a foster home for a time for observation and monitoring, and we can't say exactly how long she'll need to be there. We're delighted she's progressing so well -- and grateful to all of you for your love and prayers. THANK YOU! Please keep sending her good thoughts! Barring an unexpected turn, our next Lily update will be later in the week.
