Nominations for 2017 are now closed. Inductees will be notified in June. The induction ceremony date will be announced soon. (For 2017, because of the artist's schedule, we are not able to hold the induction on our normal weekend.)
Ok, so here’s my idea: You’ve probably heard about the plans to redo the little park next to the Rendezvous, on the corner of 7th and Felix. We’ve seen a desig...n on facebook showing a cool 3d rendering. There will be permanent restrooms and snack bar facilities for Coleman Hawkins Park. No more portapots! We dig it! The impact from our friends at Mosaic is underway. But then we heard the committee working on the final design was leaning toward a music theme. Bingo, bango, boingo, my fevered brain was off to the races and I started making calls. I’ve pitched it to people from all the parties involved, and everyone so far seems to like it. I’ve heard the term perfect fit several times, along with no-brainer. So here’s what I’m suggesting: I’d like to see the Downtown folks and the Mosaic folks partner with our friends at the St. Joseph Music Foundation and put the Missouri Music Hall of Fame there. We could have a walk of fame with the inducted members. Framed photos and memorabilia. I understand they want to redo the mural. How about a montage of inductees, so you could add to it each year? And right on the corner right down at sidewalk level I’d like to see a life-size bronze statue of Bugsy Maugh the first musician inducted. It couldn’t cost that much, he wasn’t very big. People could have their picture taken with him. The music foundation guys were pretty smart to realize that Missouri was one of the few states NOT to have a music hall of fame and were awarded the rights by the Secretary of State a few years ago. It’s ours! Right here in St. Joe! I say lets capitalize on it and make it the focal point of this yet to be developed space. Nobody I’ve talked to has had any opposition to this idea, but we’re talking committees here. Meetings and discussions and plans A B and C. It could get complicated. My goal here today is to gauge interest. To see who thinks this is a good idea for all concerned. Also to get some much deserved love for our late friend Bugsy Maugh. And to show young people here that a St. Joe kid can play on the biggest stages in the world and hold his own with the best in the business. And then come home and play with and for his friends and neighbors. So I’m asking for your shares and your likes. Most of the people involved are our facebood friends. Lets let them see what kind of response we can generate. I saw the way news of Bugsy’s passing flew across social media. I’m betting that an overwhelming number of positives would have to impress the committee making the decisions. Lets find out! And I thank you in advance for your support! See more
I just got word that our friend Bugsy Maugh has passed. "If you believe in forever, than life is just a one night stand. If there's a Rock and Roll Heaven, you know they have a hell of a band." Rest in peace, my friend.
Yea ! Bugsy Maugh
