VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: MARY JO "I would drive by Mimi’s Pantry every once in a while and wonder if it was a little grocery store or maybe a café. Finally, found out what it really was, a food pantry, and I immediately started volunteering. I have volunteered at two other places since I retired, and I know now I have found the perfect match for me! I am a retired RN and like helping people. The pantry is less than a 5-minute drive or a 45- minute walk from my home, which is a... nice plus. The whole venue is so clean, and bright and cheerful. Kelley, Sharon, Mike, and all of the volunteers have always been very friendly and welcoming to me. I started in February 2020. Every few months Mimi’s has had to change the way we serve our guests due to Covid. It always works out, and I love doing whatever job I am assigned to. I really enjoy all of the diverse guests we serve. I feel grateful that I can hopefully, make their day and life a little better! Thank you all at Mimi’s for all you do!" VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: SARA In my professional role, I work with numerous food sources, and I have found Mimi’s to be one of the best! The pantry has an amazing mission, is well organized, has phenomenal volunteers, is state of the art, and, best of all, is committed to reducing food insecurity in the area they serve. In my professional role, I work with numerous food sources, and I have found Mimi’s to be one of the best! The pantry has an amazing mission, is well organize...d, has phenomenal volunteers, is state of the art and, best of all, is committed to reducing food insecurity in the area they serve. Personally, I was looking for an opportunity to give back to the new community I was living in, as well as looking for ways to meet new people. One day, while I was visiting Mimi’s for work, I asked how I could begin volunteering for this amazing organization, and so I began volunteering at Mimi’s on Saturdays. I enjoyed the experience so much and became so committed to the people Mimi’s serves that I started arranging my work schedule to allow me to spend more hours volunteering at Mimi’s! During the COVID pandemic, Mimi’s has given me the opportunity to get out of the house a few days a week and give to those in need. Mimi’s has given me a purpose, during these uncertain times. I really enjoy working with the guests we serve at Mimi’s, who are always very friendly and appreciative of the services we provide. Their gratitude and appreciation, particularly during this time of uncertainty, has been very inspirational and is part of what keeps me coming back to volunteer at Mimi’s. I can’t wait to get back inside, with all the other Mimi’s volunteers, to continue helping support those in need and our community. Today (June 1st) marks two years that Mimi's Pantry has been serving the community! What a blessing that our pantry opened in time to serve the many additional families who would need our service during the pandemic. Since opening our doors, we have served 11,157 families. We could not have done this without the countless hours and dedication of our patrons, supporters, and volunteers, so THANK YOU!... If you are interested in volunteering at the pantry but haven't been able to find an available shift, please continue to check our calendar. Our shifts fill early, but as more people begin to resume activities and travel, spots will become available due to cancellations. The waitlist option is also a great feature. If a shift is full, you can get on the waitlist and when there are cancellations, you will automatically move into the available spot. Thankful for our community Well, 2020 is nearly in the books. It was a year of many adaptations at Mimi's Pantry. We certainly could not have made all of the changes necessary to maintain a safe environment and still serve our community without the dedication of our volunteers. With your help, we never had to shut our doors during the pandemic. And thankfully so, since more people are finding themselves in need of assistance than ever before. Throughout 2020, we served 6,6...01 families (17,596 individuals). We are looking forward to continuing our mission to feed hungry families and spark a little hope and peace in the lives of those we serve. We are so excited to continue the journey with you.
