Not one...not two...but THREE interns starting today! Please join us in welcoming Chris Wagner, Julia Michael, and Avram Stopke. Chris will be working with our Estimating Manager, Ryan Taylor, this summer in the Estimating Department. He is currently working on his Masters at SIUE.... Julia is also attending SIUE and is majoring in Construction Management plus a minor in Business Administration. She will be working this summer in the Survey Department. Avram is working on his Bachelor in Occupational Safety Degree from the University of Central Missouri and will be working in our Safety Department. Welcome everyone!
It's been a busy week for our crews on the I-270 North Project! Today we're paving the West Florissant Bridge.
For today's #WorkZoneWednesday, we're taking a closer look at MoDOT's largest project in a decade--the I-270 North project in our MoDOT - St. Louis District. ...Last month saw the demolition of the West Florissant Avenue bridge. The new bridge will have eight lanes, an unsignalized turnaround lane for eastbound drivers wanting to access I-270 West, lighting, and spaces for pedestrians and cyclists. For the next few months, thru traffic on W. Florissant is closed. But drivers can find detour routes and other updates by visiting the project website at http://www.i270north.org. Remember to take it slow and stay alert when you approach a work zone. Lives are at stake! #BUPD

Tomorrow is #givestlday. In honor of this day, we wanted to share some photos from our Rebuild Day last weekend! On May 1st, MW partnered with Rebuilding Together St. Louis and spent our day repairing the home of some residents in need. We replaced security doors, flooring, light fixtures, kitchen cabinets, and more.... This was our third time working with Rebuilding Together and we foresee a long relationship with this incredible organization. Thank you to everyone who came out! Don’t forget to visit www.givestlday.org if you’re interested in donating to a local charity this year #thankyou #constructionlife #teambuilding
Please join us in welcoming the first of our interns for the 2021 Summer Season! Meet Jessica Jordan and Natalie Zoellner! Jessica is currently enrolled at SLU and is working towards her Bachelor of Science Degree in Project Management. She will be spending her internship on the I-270 North Design-Build project.... Natalie attends Columbia College and is studying Human Resource Management and Business Administration, and minoring in Marketing. She will be working with our HR department this summer. We're so glad to have you!
Join us in congratulating our Colorado Safety Manager Sarah Spencer in passing the Board of Certified Safety Professionals Associate Safety Professional (ASP) examination! The ASP is a prerequisite to the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation. She is the perfect example of one of our most important values: Continuous Improvement. Your MW family is so proud!
#nationalworkzoneawarenessweek continues with this simple reminder: At the end of the day, we all want to make it home. Be safe. Be aware.... Be mindful of you speed. Be mindful of your space. Work zone safety is a serious matter. These are the current statistics: In 2020, 27 people were killed in work zone crashes in Missouri. Between 2016 and 2020, 83 people were killed in work zone crashes in Missouri. Between 2016 and 2020, 3,757 people were injured in Missouri work zone crashes. Since 2000, 19 MoDOT employees have been killed in the line of duty, 13 of them taking place in work zones. The best defense in a work zone crash, or any crash, is a seat belt. In 2020, 66 percent of vehicle occupant fatalities were not wearing a seat belt. This year, let's all be part of the solution.
Big things happening in Colorado! In Denver, Millstone Weber has completed approximately 60% of the 94,000 SY of concrete pavement for the Concourse A Expansion and is off and running again this season. MW is also helping the County of Boulder stay in shape by slipping a 2000 LF bike trail along 71st and Lookout Road. ... Great work everyone!
We promised you a St. Louis Lambert update...so here you go! Last week our crews continued tearing out the existing shoulder of Taxiway Delta. (We are actually using the excess dirt underneath the old taxiway on our I-270 North Project due to the demand of fill there.) The concrete rubble is then recycled and used as a base layer for the new runway. Once the recycled concrete is pushed back in the fill, a capping rock layer is laid on top of it. Soon we'll begin working on the drainable base on top of the capping rock.
We're not done yet! We also have two full-time hires starting with us. Meet John and Kelly! John is joining us as a survey technician, and Kelly will be our new Hauling & Contracts Administrator.
