Very thankful that this delightful family had such success and felt compelled to talk about it in their blog: http://www.whole-ministries.com/blog/then-there-were-7
Blessed to have been part of this family's journey. Thank you for sharing it with us! https://www.courierpress.com//end-rainbow-newb/2164611002/
http://www.cdc.gov//rele/2016/s0315-zika-virus-travel.html Lots of questions about this, and not a ton is known. For now, the CDC is recommending women who are pregnant or are trying to become pregnant avoid non-essential travel to these areas. There is some talk of women who might want to become pregnant to avoid travel as well. There is probably more fear than fact associated with this virus, but it's too soon to tell how far it will spread (and even if the brain / skul...l abnormalities is truly due to this virus). As for the US, we do have these mosquitoes that transmit the virus, but because of their habitat requirements, it is unlikely to be transmitted widely.
https://www.aap.org//AAP-Says-No-Amount-of-Alcohol-Should- This is reasonable, I guess. The problem is that we have a recommendation to not do something because it's not been shown as safe. Not proving that it's dangerous. A 2010 study of 1300 women showed that low (1-4 per week) or moderate (5-8) drinks per week in the first trimester did not show any neurocognitive effects on their children at age 5. (obviously not measuring who got into Harvard, but late enough to show most developmental milestones). I just don't like seeing blanket pronouncements about avoiding something that really can't be tested as safe (who will volunteer for that study??). We know heavy drinking and regular drinking is bad. We don't have evidence that intermittent, light drinking is harmful - in fact we only have evidence (so far) that it is not.
