We love supporting other Therapist and their business endeavors! Elizabeth, owner of Radius Therapy LLC recently told me about some products she is offering. Since it's winter time and as therapists we sometimes help our patients with their socks (Don't pretend like we don't all know what it's like to cringe at the cloud of flaky skin that surrounds us when we are helping our patients with those terribly fitting yellow nonslip socks ) Thought the following product might be... useful to your patients as they make it through this dry winter!! Here's the info she gave me!! Her contact info is in the comments!!! STOP slathering on Vaseline and sleeping in socks STOP grating your feet during pedicures STOP wrapping your feet in plastic wrap STOP putting on the booties that make your skin shed for days You don’t need to do any of those things. All you need is this foot balm that actually WORKS. Just rub a pea sized amount to both feet at night, and that’s it! It’s cheaper than a pedicure and lasts for months! Lots of very happy customers who were skeptical at first! Like this one I have tubes in stock ready to ship tomorrow

****Long Message Warning (useful information though) Happy New Year Everyone! We hope that you and your families are staying healthy and safe as we continue to navigate Covid-19 and the many changes in the daily healthcare we are providing to recovering patients. At MDD we have been actively seeing patients during all of 2020 and have witnessed the constant struggle you as therapists are faced with while trying to stay healthy yourselves. Our team is available to provide ...services for your patients in a clean and healthy environment and we plan to continue providing our services and fighting this pandemic right along with you! We have recently started to notice some similarities and consistencies during assessments with patients recovering from Covid-19 and I wanted to share these observations with all of you to assist in your POC development and ensuring that your patients are not suffering from other dysphagia related symptoms Covid-19 has caused and may be going undiagnosed. We have noticed that many assessments mirror a brain stem stroke although the patient has not suffered a CVA and the swallow is presenting itself to be absent. We have noticed that often times there is limited swallow response including minimal to no epiglottic inversion, reduced hyolaryngeal excursion, poor pharyngeal constriction, and overall absent sensation throughout the pharynx and larynx resulting in silent aspiration of multiple consistencies. The loss of taste and smell is typically consistent with these assessments. We have started performing follow up assessments for these patients and finding that the swallow impairments resolve themselves with intense speech therapy within 4-6 weeks but the patients often suffer pneumonia during their illness. Some of these patients did not receive a video at the hospital and the SNF or Rehab SLP was the first one to assess their swallow. Some of these patients came into the nursing home on regular diets and were downgraded when the speech therapist recognized the difficulty with swallowing at bedside and then ordered our services. MDD will see a patient recovering from Covid-19 as long as they are 21 days past initial diagnosis and cannot have any fever within the last 7 days. We want to be a vital addition to your teams as we know that it is difficult to get access to instrumental assessments at this time in the hospital. We are trying to get to our patients as quickly as possible. Please keep us in mind as you are providing speech services to recovering Covid patients in your area and please don't hesitate to let other professionals know our services are available. Stay healthy everyone and thank you for all that you do!!

Love how she explains how easily we can feel falsely confident about our clinical perception of the swallow during a bedside. I was absolutely one of those SLP's after graduation that did not 100% understand how much we don't know about the swallow without an instrumental swallow assessment. Always feel like I am learning and love teaching others what I have learned!! https://www.facebook.com/714390377/posts/10156954943935378/

Hello to all our fellow SLP's, each of us at Midwest Dysphagia Diagnostics hope you are staying healthy as we move into a time of uncertainty and navigating the unknown. We hope you know just how important your services are to our local geriatric and adult populations. We commend each one of you as you continue to treat your patients and truly show how we lead with our hearts in healthcare. As the COVID-19 attacks our elderly and all patients with underlying illnesses; our ...professional expertise of the pulmonary system and the many underlying complications that may be related to alternative illnesses and Dysphagia makes us an important caregiver in their daily life. We can help ensure their quality of life as well as provide early detection of acute medical changes while ruling out other potential impairments such as aspiration. We are grateful for the strong team of therapists within the KC and surrounding areas and you all should know how much your dedication means to your patients and their concerned family members as we move forward with the new changes. We want to assure you MDD is dedicated to staying up and running as long as we possibly can and are taking strict CDC precautions on our truck to maintain a healthy environment for your patients, yourselves, and our staff. Our goal is to make sure your patient's rehabilitation continues to be a priority and to help them return home quickly and healthy. We also want to remind therapists that have been transitioning to teletherapy that we can provide SNF/ALF/ILF/Home based assessments to provide you with an in person baseline swallow and improve the accuracy of your POC while you are not allowed access to in-person assessment techniques. Please let any of your colleagues know we are here to help and feel free to give them our contact info. We know this process is going to change for all levels of care and we are prepared to be flexible. Let us know what we can do to help you in the coming weeks and months and we will do everything in our power to make this process as seamless as possible. Please take care of yourselves and stay healthy!

As we all take the necessary precautions for our safety, it's important to remember the effect social distancing / quarantine can do to our patients and their loved ones. You may be one of the few friendly faces our patients are seeing each day. Let's continue to be supportive to our residents mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally. Stay safe out there

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oT3GZaDsfbM We don't have X-Ray Vision! One of the hardest things to convince my rehab directors while working in SNFs and even in acute hospitals when I requested an MBSS and the physician didn't support my recommendations. Remember you're the clinician and if your patient is showing any risks of Dysphagia don't be afraid to advocate for their care
