In 2022, you have new protections against surprise billing! You have the right to ask for a "Good Faith Estimate" of your medical costs before a procedure, and your provider must give you a list of each item you will be billed for and how much it should cost. If your medical bill is $400 more than the "Good Faith Estimate," you have the right to appeal the charges. Everyone can ask for a Good Faith Estimate, regardless of insurance status.
