While officers were in that area, there was a crash reported in the 300 block of N Missouri with the driver walking away from the scene. Over the past several weeks, numerous citizens have reported receiving suspicious phone calls. The citizens receive an automated message claiming to be from the Social Security Administration and the message says the person’s social security number has been hacked and shut down. The message then tells the person to push a button to speak with someone. If the person continues the call, they speak with someone who wants them to pay money with a gift card to secure their social security number. This is a scam. Citizens are reminded that no legitimate company or government entity will call you needing personal information or want payment with money cards, money grams, etc. Everyone is also reminded that no legitimate person needs to use your bank account for any reason and you should never have to pay anything for a prize.
