Frontline health care workers have provided support to countless patients for the past two years, but now they’re the ones who need help. As the strain on caregivers continues, co-workers have stepped out from behind their desks to lend a hand.
Let charity then be our badge of honour So that it may truly be said, there is in us but one heart. Mercy foundress Catherine McAuley. Coinciding with Mercy's 125th anniversary in the Joplin community, we are kicking off an initiative with a goal of having our co-workers commit 125 acts of kindness in our 125th year. One of the first was a recent food drive at #MercyCarthage for Catherine's Cupboard, our food pantry for co-workers in need. Be on the lookout for many more acts of kindness as we celebrate a century and a quarter of service to the community.
Two years into the pandemic, health care workers still struggle with traumatic stress on a daily basis. So how can you help? Suzie Braddock, a licensed professional counselor at Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City, shares tips on how to be a supportive loved one to the health care workers in your life. In short, listen and love them through all of it.
Thank you, Sara Govero, for your generous gift to Mercy Health Foundation Jefferson to support families in the #MercyJefferson community.
"They who dwell in the ends of the Earth stand in awe of Your signs; You make the dawn and the sunset shout for joy." - Psalm 65:8 Every sunset comes with the promise of a new dawn, and even in the most fast-paced of times, we remember there will come a time to rest. Thanks to co-worker Dan Smith for this amazing image from Mercy Hospital Fort Smith!
Happy CRNA Week to certified registered nurse anesthetist like Keri Dewey! "Like all CRNAs, I was a bedside nurse first. I really enjoyed patient care and wanted to deepen my understanding of anesthesia while furthering my education in the medical field. I like taking care of patients during a difficult time in their life and it's rewarding to know I'm able to make my patients comfortable before, during and after surgery."
With 18 years of patient care experience, Dr. Ray Weick takes over as head of Mercy Clinic in the St. Louis metro area.
The only regret that I have with having the surgery is that I didn’t do it sooner. Download our free guide to see if weight-loss surgery is right for you: https://bit.ly/3ItBTU3.

When you quit smoking, you don’t just improve your life, you also improve the lives of those you love. Quitting protects them from secondhand smoke. It also improves your health, giving you more energy to spend time with them, which means no more missing special moments. Ready to #GetQuit for your family? Visit www.OKtoQuit.com for a free resource guide. Additionally, nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) can increase your chance of quitting for good. Visit your Mercy doctor to see if NRT is right for you.

Congratulations to the first responders and Mercy co-workers honored with a Great Save Award by the East Central Regional EMS Committee’s Annual Life Saver Awards. The committee honored these heroes for their actions to save Jon Mitchell, who was 15 at the time he was stabbed during an incident in Waterloo, Ill., in August 2019. Jon’s aorta was 80% severed in the stabbing. This photo is from before the pandemic when Jon reunited with the first responders and #MercySouthSTL trauma team who saved him: https://bit.ly/2YBJBq7
