The Missouri Department of Labor recently updated their webpage for information on the additional benefits under the Federal legislation. Please go to https://labor.mo.gov and click the COVID-19 FAQs for Businesses & Workers banner.

Just a few updates regarding the programs available under the CARE act. Please check www.meecpa.com for updates to the legislation. We have good summaries of the various issues posted and they are very helpful. Most of them have links to other governmental websites if you would like something more in depth. Updates are posted on the website as soon as they are available. This week there will be updates to the loan programs available for self-employed individuals. Thos...e updates will be posted to the website and here on our page. We are receiving a high volume of emails and phone calls regarding your tax returns and your stimulus benefits. I would love to be able to answer each query but if I do that, I can’t finalize tax returns. Many of the questions I am being asked are answered on our website. I hope you understand that we can’t reply to every call or email. Once your return is finalized, you will be notified that it has been sent to your secure portal. If you have any questions at that time, someone will be able to answer them for you. I greatly appreciate your patience and understanding. I know we all have concerns at this time. I want you to know that I am dedicated to getting everything completed as soon as I can and want this to go as smoothly as possible. Please take care of your family and stay healthy.

To my clients and to others out there. I hope you are all doing well and making the most of this time. My goal right now, for using Facebook, is to get tax and other related information to you. I want to provide resources I believe can be trusted during this unusual time. As much as we would all like to have all of the answers now, I am positive about one thing. The final details will come slowly. There will be lots of outlets who will be writing articles to guess at ce...rtain outcomes or will provide details of one plan or another and they will be convincing. However, it is sometimes hard to determine if those plans have been finalized and approved by through the correct legislative actions. That is their job, I feel my job is to provide stability and provide you will good advice and resources. I ask that you be cautious of the information you see on Facebook and other social media sites. Today I saw a post from someone who was posting about how to apply for unemployment benefits. However, the article was regarding benefits in a foreign country and they live in the US. Please be careful and above all, be good to each other. See more

I realize that there is an abundance of information in the news regarding the stimulus bill and what it does and does not provide for as far as relief to individual taxpayers. I also realize there can be a significant amount of anxiety regarding your financial situation. Rest assured I am closely monitoring the situation and will share information once everything is finalized. Yesterday the bill was passed by the Senate and has been sent to the House for approval. When the... bill has been voted on and approved, it will go to the White House for President Trump’s signature. At that time, it will become law. Until it becomes law, we will not know the final details of the package. Even after it becomes law, details of how the law will be implemented could take some time to be finalized and implemented. I will go out on a limb and say the cash payments will be paid without any input from taxpayers. No forms will need to be filed and it will be based on previously filed tax returns. If you have filed a return with banking information included for a refund to be direct deposited, you will most likely receive a direct deposit into your account for any stimulus payment. If you do not have banking information on file with the IRS, you will receive a check. Again, that is my opinion based on the recent news reports. Today, Springfield, MO, has been put on a 30-day stay-at-home order. We will continue to work during this time based on the schedule that was announced earlier. Basically, 9-5 CDT for phone calls and we have closed our offices except for employees. I would ask that you not call or email our office regarding the status of the stimulus bill as we will be releasing that information via email, posts to our website and our Facebook page. The office staff will not be able to answer any questions regarding the stimulus and we will not be able to return calls or emails regarding the stimulus. I hope you understand that answering individuals requests for information would take time away from our ability to prepare tax returns and to assist our business clients with their needs regarding the stimulus funds. I will communicate details once the bill is passed and we have concrete information to share. Please keep up with current status on our website www.meecpa.com or on our Facebook page @meecpa.

It was bad enough when it was just phone calls. Please be careful if you get an IRS notice as the scam artists are now mailing notices that look like real IRS notices. This video does a great job of highlighting the differences between the real and fake notices. Best Practice is to always provide any notices you receive to your CPA.
