MCC received one hundred thousand dollars from the MO Office of Workforce Development. MCC worked with Iron Workers Local 10 and the Builders Association on the... program. Shonda R Atwater, Apprenticeship program manager, stated on 41 Action News, "we have several completion degree programs for several important trades. This is a way to get people into the trades and also get them excited about coming to MCC and completing an associate’s degree." Pre-Apprenticeship programs prepare participants for registered apprenticeship - where students get paid to work and learn more about their trade. The program goes beyond preparing students for the State of Missouri or Kansas Commercial Driver's License Class A performance exam. It prepares graduates for a challenging and rewarding career in the trucking industry. The outcomes of the program are directly linked to the federal guidelines established for entry level drivers, which can be found in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation (FMCSR), and the state guidelines for earning the Class A Commercial Driver's License. In addition to classroom training, hands-on training is provided to each student to ensure comprehension and skill development of the various CMV operating procedures required by the state. Salary Range You can earn $40,000 - $60,000 per year with a certificate and a Class A license.

Metropolitan Community College-Maple Woods student Wyatt Stone (center) of Kansas City North is the first recipient of a $2,000 scholarship from the Zaxby’s restaurants in Gladstone and Liberty. Nick Navarro (left), owner of the two locations, presented a ceremonial check to Stone along with Larry Rideaux Jr., president of MCC-Maple Woods. Stone, who is studying business at MCC, has been a kitchen team member at the Zaxby’s in Gladstone since July 2019. We plan to offer more scholarships to the students who work at our locations, Navarro said. Wyatt is our first, and we are happy to help him achieve his goals. The scholarship is available to employees who’ve worked at least 1,500 hours, or about 1-1/2 years of part-time work, Navarro added.

Honk & Howl was a howling time last night. There were over 150 cars drive through the trunk or treat with a drive by photo booth at the end. We had many scary little ghouls and of course, a few big ones. Happy Halloween from MCC - Maple Woods!!!
