There are four articles in this post from Logan University doctors and teachers. Take a look at each one and see if they provide some good health information for you.
The office will be open this week Monday through Friday, but closed next Monday for Memorial Day. Have a great week and a wonderful holiday weekend! - Dr. Kevin
We are asking our patients to continue to wear a mask when you come to the office. Once we have you back in a room you may take off your mask or leave it on as you feel comfortable. We will continue to wear masks as a healthcare facility until we feel we can transition into no masks. Thank you for your continued cooperation and we hope to be back to "normal" very soon. - Dr. Kevin
This has nothing to do with Chiropractic but for those of you who like Disney like I do.....
HIP PAIN - MANY CAUSES Patient: "My hip hurts". Dr. Kevin: "Which one?" My response has a meaning. As you know, folks call different areas "the hip". It can actually be the hip on the side that we feel, it can be the sacroiliac joint, the glut area, or the top crest of the pelvis. The actual hip joint is in the groin area - the bone you feel is the greater trochanter on the outside. Let's talk about some common causes of hip pain.... Bursitis: inflammation of the bursa sack that helps with friction Tendonitis: this could be the piriformis muscle, the gluteus medius/minimus muscles, or the band that runs down the side of the thigh. Mechanical pain: this can come from the low back, sacroiliac joint Muscular trigger point: several muscles can create trigger points that refer pain to the hip - piriformis, lumbar, gluteus, IT band, psoas or hip flexor Knee problems: this can create a muscular problem or a mechanical problem in the hip Nerve pain: This could be sciatica or maybe the L4 or L3 nerve There are many other causes (including fracture) of hip pain but these are some of the one we may be able to help you with. Have a great day everyone! - Dr. Kevin See more
Holiday fun is over, back to our normal schedule this week. We’ll be open Monday through Saturday this week. Blessings for a great New Year!
And may she be a might better than the last one. To good health in 2021!
Many of you have commented to me on videos they have seen online with someone using a strange technique for back pain, or violent type of neck traction techniques. Let me assure you, these crazy techniques are NOT, let me repeat that, NOT taught in Chiropractic schools. Good Chiropractic technique is vital to restoring proper function to the spine and extremities. Chiropractic colleges, like Logan here in St. Louis, teach gentle and specific techniques that work and work well.... Yanking a person's neck with a traction device or using forceful ways to "get a pop" are NOT taught in our schools. I'm not sure where these people learned to do this nor do I understand why they put them on the internet for people to get the wrong idea about Chiropractic or Physical Therapy. If you do have a question about these videos or even what techniques I use at the office, please let me know. I'd be happy to talk to you about it. Have a great New Year's everyone! - Dr. Kevin See more
PIRIFORMIS MUSCLE AND SCIATICA We're all seeing lots of ads on Facebook and Twitter regarding the piriformis muscle and how it affects sciatica. It does have a role but it's not the whole problem. Stretching the piriformis is good because it can release some of the pressure on the sciatic nerve - the nerve exits the sacrum and goes under (and sometimes through) the muscle. Other factors such as low back function and sacroiliac joint function also play a role along with inflam...mation. Inflammation is like a toxin to nerve tissue. Ice packs over a thin towel in the region can be helpful. So when the nerve in your leg hurts, give us a call. In the meantime, use some ice and stretch the piriformis muscle. - Dr. Kevin See more
