It will be a warm and breezy day...good for a lot of outdoor activities but, burning will not be one of them! Temperatures this afternoon will rise into the upp...er 60s and lower 70s with humidity values falling into the upper teens and lower 20s percent range. Combining the dry conditions with southerly wind gusts 30 to 35 mph will create very high fire danger conditions this afternoon. As such a Red Flag Warning is in effect from noon through 6PM. Please avoid all burning. See more

After assisting neighboring departments with multiple fatality fires in less than a week's time, the MFPD would like to remind everyone again to please make sure you have smoke detectors installed and please make sure they are in working order. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families who have lost loved ones in these tragic fires and we send our thanks to all the hardworking firefighters and first responders who have been working these tough calls in extremely cold conditions.

For firefighters and first responders all across the nation, 2020 has been a year of uncertainty and worry full of challenges and change. But there is one thing that will never waver-- the brotherhood and camaraderie among firefighters. The MFPD was reminded of this when a larger metro-area department recently sent a truckload of donated air packs to our station. Also known as SCBAs (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus), these are one of the most important pieces of safety gea...r worn by firefighters. The portable air tanks allow firefighters to breathe clean normal temperature air while fighting fire. If the district were to purchase these packs brand new for our 14 volunteer firefighters, each one would cost more than $9,000. Although the donated packs are not brand new, they are certified and each of our volunteers now has an up-to-date, more versatile and safer piece of equipment that allows them to better serve our constituents in times of distress. There were enough packs in this donation to also assist another small rural department in the county. There is no better example of the Missouri State Fire Marshal Tim Bean's favorite saying-- "Neighbors Helping Neighbors". The MFPD is incredibly thankful for this donation and we consider it a privilege and honor to be part of the family that is the fire service. See more

Special thanks to Erik and Shaun with Texas Fire Trucks for their superior customer service while assisting the MFPD through the process of selecting and purchasing a new fire engine. MFPD Chief Kris White and Assistant Chief Jeff Ryun picked up the 2000 Spartan Pumper on Friday. The unit comes to Mayview from the Pasadena, TX Fire Department--the largest all-volunteer department in the nation. MFPD's volunteers put in a long day today getting the truck ready and it has officially been put into service. This engine is a safer and more efficient unit that will enable our volunteer firefighters to provide a higher level of service to the citizens we serve.

As of today, the volunteer firefighters of the Mayview Fire Protection District have answered a record-breaking 135 calls for service in 2020. In 2019, MFPD responded to approximately 90 calls. In 2018, it was around 80 calls. Prior to that, it was an average of less than 60 calls per year. From structure fires to motor vehicle accidents, to EMS assists and everything in between, our dedicated volunteers are answering more calls than ever before. They don't do it for the reco...gnition, but we want to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to each and every one of them for their outstanding service to our community. #neighborshelpingneighbors Chief- Kris White Assistant Chief - Jeff Ryun Captain - Chris Liles Captain - William Soendker Firefighter - Travis Fricke Firefighter - Jake Hayward Firefighter - Emmet Cox Firefighter - Tim Wright Firefighter - Kenny Fiegenbaum Firefighter- Warren Hawthorne Firefighter - Corbin Ryun Junior Firefighter - Allen Pierce Junior Firefighter - Trever Johnston Junior Firefighter - Daniel Duncan

The Mayview Fire Protection District would like to thank the mutual aid agencies from Higginsville, Wellington, Lexington, and Odessa who assisted with a house fire in Mayview this evening. The Red Cross was on scene to offer assistance to the home owners. Thankfully, there were no injuries. The fire was determined to be accidental in nature and started in the laundry room.

State Fire Marshal urges Missourians refrain from outdoor burning until conditions improve. There is a threat of fires rapidly spreading due to a lack of rainfall, low humidity, dry fuels, gusty winds & warm temps TUES & WED. https://dfs.dps.mo.gov//92d3bd63-1883-4cc8-99bd-f9d2321d84

The Mayview Fire Protection District's Volunteer Firefighters and Board of Directors are deeply humbled to be named as the Fire Fighters Association of Missouri's (FFAM) Fire Department of Year. We could not do what we do without the support of our community, our neighbors, and organizations like the FFAM. From text messages and phone calls to social media posts and emails, thank you to everyone who has reached out to congratulate us. This is an incredible honor and we look forward to continuing our efforts to do the best we can for the people we serve! Thank you!

Jeff Sanders faithfully put up the American flags around Mayview for holidays and community celebrations for years. Today, on the third anniversary of the line of duty accident that claimed his life, we put them up for him. Today we remember. Today we honor. Today we celebrate the life of our fallen hero. Please keep Jeff's family and fellow firefighters in your thoughts and prayers today. This evening we invite Jeff's family and friends to join us on the patio at the Old Sch...ool Store & Bar for a "Heroes Happy Hour" from 6pm-8pm The Bar is serving a free-will donation meal while supplies last. All proceeds will go to Supporting Heroes-- an organization that honors the service and sacrifice of public safety heroes who gave their lives in the line of duty by caring for the loved ones they leave behind. The donation will be sent in memory of Firefighter Jeff Sanders. See more
