Advanced Surgical Associates had a surprise celebration for its general surgery resident, Dr. Troy Tyler, this afternoon. It was announced yesterday that Dr. Tyler had matched for his vascular surgery fellowship with MAVI for August 2022. The MAVI surgeons were invited to help celebrate him! Among all the medical specialties, vascular clinic nursing is one of the most challenging. The learning curve is very steep, there's no anticipating the surgeon's direction as each patient's situation is truly unique, lives and limbs are truly at stake, most patients have comorbidities that add to the challenge of figuring out what's going on and oftentimes determining next steps from phone conversations adds to the complexity of decision making. MAVI nurses and nurse practitioners are among the brightest and best of the best, though, so patients are in excellent hands! Thank you Vanessa, Briana, Jean, Melissa, Nikki, Megan, Jonica, Linn, Carol, Devon, Jess, Julie, Kristine, Amber and Annette! We appreciate all you do for patients and MAVI! There are no words to adequately convey the appreciation for those who literally save lives and limbs everyday. So we can simply be especially grateful that these great men do what they do not for the thanks or the recognition, but rather because it is their calling to serve. So today, Drs. Carter, Deiparine, Kujath, Stark, Wagner and Wilson, we honor you for sharing your precious time and talents with all those who so desperately need you. And a very special word of thanks to the spouses and families of these special men, as well. They could not do what they do without supportive spouses and families who understand their life and limb saving work. MAVI loves its surgeons on Doctors Day and everyday!

GET TO KNOW RITA SPURGEON, RVT, RPhS POSITION: Technical Director - Ultrasound & VeinCare JOINED MAVI in 2021 I CHOSE MY PROFESSION after falling in love with medical imaging at the young age of just 16 years old. I had attended a career fair held by a local college and originally wanted to become a nuclear medicine technologist, but eventually fell in love with the operator-dependency that comes with diagnostic ultrasound. I took an interest in studying cardiovascular u...ltrasound technology as I had a little brother who passed away from a congenital heart defect at a very young age, and then furthered my education by learning more about the roles of multiple diagnostic imaging modalities and industry leadership. Working under the umbrella of vascular surgery is where I have really found the most fulfillment in my 17-year long sonography career. I AM MOST PASSIONATE ABOUT being a good mom to my 4 (almost 5) year-old daughter.

At our super busy vascular surgery practice, we are always looking for ways to become more efficient. When Bob, one of our amazing Vascular Technicians, saw that the winter weather was being tracked in creating messy floors he quickly grabbed a mop and became extra productive using his feet as extra mop heads as well. Thank you, Bob, for taking great care of patients and great care of MAVI too!
