Especially when it's this cold outside...

The "MO Beef for MO Kids" program implemented at Putnam County R-I last year was a true success. Thanks to the donations from several local ranchers, we were a...ble to offer fresh home-grown beef to our students at a portion of the normal cost. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the processing facilities have been booking for several months in advance, leaving us on a cancellation call list that has failed to be effective. Processing for the school must be done by a USDA-inspected facility, so the selection is few. We have recently learned of a new facility in Butler, Missouri which is scheduled to be operational in May. They have confirmed that they will be available to accommodate our needs and Dr. Heath Halley has generously offered to transport any beef donations. The farm to school connection enriches the bond between the community and our students. Cattle can be donated either directly from a producer or could be purchased from a local farmer. Community members can offer monetary donations to assist in processing fees or transportation to the processing facility. The children can taste the difference in locally processed beef, and appreciate that it has been raised so close to home. To be successful, this program will require a commitment from several producers. One cow per month is estimated to feed our students. Besides a tax deduction, donors will be recognized on a monthly banner displayed in the high school cafeteria (commons), on the scrolling marquee, and on the school website. This is a great way to support the beef industry and help kids learn to love beef. Interested parties should contact me at your earliest convenience so I can plan accordingly. Just read this and had to share

I understand that some people don't want to wear a mask & that's ok, but my profession doesn't accommodate social distancing. I respect everyone's choice for their self but as a type 1diabetic for 22 years and for the health of my older clients and those on medications that suppress the immune system I AM REQUIRING MASKS before you enter my office. I will have no hard feelings for cancellations or choosing to go elsewhere because of this, but most of my clients are like family and I would feel horrible if my neglect for detail caused them to become ill. Thank you for your understanding.
