Marshall event to raise awareness of Human Trafficking Human trafficking has been in the news frequently over the last year, with high profile arrests of a... large quantity of traffickers across the United States. But the number of arrests is just a drop-in-the-bucket when compared to the millions of victims of this horrendous crime. A public-private collaboration will bring insight to the effects of human trafficking via an upcoming event at the Marshall Community Center. RTD Ministries, Fitzgibbon Hospital and the City of Marshall have partnered to bring a high-impact experience to the community, with a focus on human trafficking and child exploitation. An event called The Apathy Effect will be held from Monday, Oct. 12, through Thursday, Oct. 15, at the community center. Attendees will be asked to make a reservation in advance, to ensure social distancing due to Covid-19. The immersive multi-media experience will call attention to the problem of human trafficking for communities just like Marshall. The Apathy Effect Exhibit is a tour experience that travels around the United States in spaces where we have the opportunity to engage the community on this crime of human trafficking, said Mark Brende, Engagement Coordinator with iEmpathize, the organization that provides The Apathy Effect. Through film, photography and artifacts we create an experience that will ignite empathy and understanding of how people can engage this issue on a local level and in ways that can make a difference. Every community needs to be empowered to act on this very important issue of human trafficking, because buyers are perfectly willing to come to Kansas City and even Marshall. Because so much grooming and recruiting happens online all across the globe, this issue exists everywhere. Kids are spending more than eight hours a day every day online, and there are people that are hunting for children. Estimates are more than a million per day, utilizing social media and (video) games to connect with kids. The Apathy Effect is considered a PG-13 exhibit. That rating is given due to some content that may be troubling for young children. Discretion is advised for parents and teachers. However, the content is important enough for students over the age of 13 to learn. We tell stories of survivors and portray them in the most dignified way that we can, so that they are not re-exploited. We have asked parents to use discernment, and if an educator wants to bring their class within their discretion, this is a conversation that should be had, said Brende. The tour will take about 30 minutes, with a 15-minute break before the next tour.

As the state continues to open, there can be no doubt that COVID-19 is still present in our community. One of the areas our community has been able to help us ...navigate this pandemic is in making homemade masks. We still have need for these homemade masks as they help us conserve our PPE for staff who are working hard to provide the highest level of care to our patients. If you have donated in the past, thank you! Would you consider making more? Your donations make a difference. You can deliver your masks to our front circle drive between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. M-F and 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on the weekends. Please put a note with your package that says: 1)Name, address, phone number 2)How many masks are in your donation. Thank you for all your help and hoping you stay safe over the holiday weekend!

This is National Hospital | National Nursing Home | and National Nurses week. We thought it would be fun to send some video messages to our staff to let them know how much their care and their hard work means to us. https://youtu.be/j6G5CyJVa-o
