WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT CST MONDAYNIGHT... ...WIND CHILL ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM CST TUESDAY... * WHAT...For the Winter Storm Warning, heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations of 6 to 9 inches. For the Wind Chill Advisory, very cold wind chills. Wind chills as low as 20 below zero. ... * WHERE...Portions of east central and southeast Missouri and south central and southwest Illinois. * WHEN...For the Winter Storm Warning, until midnight CST Monday night. The cold wind chills could result in hypothermia if precautions are not taken. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Winter Storm Warning for snow means that heavy snowfall of 6 inches or more is expected. The rapid accumulation of snow will make travel extremely difficult, if not impossible. If travel is necessary, make sure to exercise extreme caution. Begin your travel with a full tank of gas, and carry a winter storm kit which includes a shovel, flashlight, cellphone, food and water, and blankets of extra warm clothing. A Wind Chill Advisory means that very cold air and strong winds will combine to generate low wind chill values. This will result in frost bite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken. If you must venture outdoors, make sure you wear a hat and gloves, making sure all exposed skin is covered. In Missouri, the latest road conditions can be obtained on the Internet at traveler.modot.org/map/ or by calling 1-888-275-6636.

Due to the current pandemic, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office will be following suit with other Sheriff’s Offices such as Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff’s Office, other agencies around Missouri, and the country in an attempt to prevent spread of COVID-19. Although there are no known current cases in our county, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office will be practicing preventative measures in an attempt to keep our residents safe. Until Further Notice; In response to COVID-19..., the Sheriff's Office will be modifying our response for the office. For non-emergency calls, a deputy will be assigned to take your report over the telephone instead of a physical response. For example, calls for crimes that already occurred, no suspect present, and there is no immediate threat of personal safety. Deputies will still respond to emergency calls where a crime is in progress and when personal safety is in danger. The citizens of Madison County are encouraged to call into the Madison County Dispatch rather than physically coming to the Sheriff's Office. The phone number to Madison County Dispatch is 573-783-2234 for non-emergencies. Please call 911 in the event of an emergency or for emergency services. We also encourage the public to tell our dispatchers if they believe they or someone else at the scene or residence are experiencing flu or COVID-19 symptoms, so the First Responders can take the appropriate precautions when responding. The Sheriff's Office will also be suspending group tours, public meetings and any non-criminal fingerprinting services. Thank you for your cooperation and patience. These are steps are necessary for the health and safety of the Sheriff's Office staff and public. -921

MAAA Superintendent Association Closure Communication March 15, 2020 Dear Families and Staff:... The COVID-19 pandemic is presenting unique challenges to the world community. Although our area counties have no known COVID-19 cases, we have made the decisionwith the recommendations of local health authoritiesto close our schools to safeguard the health and wellness of our students and staff. All MAAA schools, as well as our preschool programs, will be closed beginning this Wednesday, March 18. We are in uncharted territory while planning for the spread of COVID-19. It is difficult to predict where we will be in two days, much less two weeks from now. With that being said, we tentatively plan on welcoming students and staff back on April 6. We appreciate your understanding if that date changes, and we will communicate all updates with our families. Our decision was made after consultation with local officials about the need to practice social distancing, to limit gatherings of large groups in order to decrease the risk to our most vulnerable populations, and to reduce the burden on the healthcare system. Our decision aligns with similar actions being taken to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 by our neighboring school districts, including those in Jefferson and St. Louis counties. Although we know that this will create a hardship for many of us, we are now at the point where the closure of our schools is the best decision to help limit the spread of COVID-19 and to keep our students, families and employees healthy. During the break, we will be performing cleaning and disinfecting above and beyond our established practices at all schools and district offices. We are waiting for guidance from MSHAA related to athletics and activities. We will share information as it becomes available. We know that you have many questions, and we will do our best to address your concerns. Currently, it seems that there are more unknowns than answers, including questions about kindergarten registration, graduation and summer school, among others. We are working on how to address these and other questions and will continue to keep you informed. We appreciate your patience and support as we move forward together. Thank you for your patience, your support, and your understanding.
