When I was 4 years old, I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D). My world changed. Every meal, every activity like playing soccer, going swimming, play dates.... had to be planned and monitored. T1D is a serious disease that affects millions of children like me and adults too. There is nothing you can do to prevent it and there is no cure- But there is hope. On November 1, my team, Wonder Woman Trisha (that’s me) is participating in the first ever National JDRF One Walk to create a world without T1D. We are raising money to fund life-changing research for the millions of people affected by T1D- people like me. T1D is stressful to manage. Because of diabetes research, I am able to wear a continuous glucose monitor so my parents can sleep at night, and now I am able to get my first insulin pump. I have a lot of responsibilities that my friends don't have to worry about. But diabetes isn't all bad. I made some cool friends at the last walk, and juice and ice cream are a must in the house because of low blood sugar moments.
