Stand Your Ground Bible Study An Introduction to Womanist Theology This study is an introduction to Womanist theology, a way of understanding God and the Bible from the experiences of Black women in the United States. We will discuss this theological movement’s origins, its commitments to justice for Black women (as well as all persons who suffer oppression), and the relevance of Womanist theology in light of current turmoils in the United States. To help accomplish these... goals, we will read Kelly Brown Douglas’s text, Stand Your Ground: Black Bodies and the Justice of God, which explores the relationship between the murder of Trayvon Martin and the cross of Jesus Christ, amid the history of exploitation of Black bodies in the United States. Instructor: Dr. Linda Thomas, Full Professor of Theology and Anthropology at Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago. Dates: Saturdays, April 10, 17, 24, May 1, 8, 15, 2021 Time: 9:00 - 11:00 am CST The classes will be taught via Zoom, and will be recorded to be viewed by students who miss a session due to a work or illness event. Cost: $60 To register: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/stand-your-ground-bible-study- See more

"The call for me was to get the word out that Christianity is not a slave religion, but Christianity is a liberating religion...No, we don't have to give up Christianity. What we need to be free is right here in this religion. It just hasn't been unleashed, and that's our job as liberating liberation theologians--to get the Good News of the Gospel--to set captives free." Rev. Dr. Katie Geneva Cannon

Eternal God, from whose mind came this great cosmic universe, we bless you. In the flow of our days, help us to seek that which is high, noble and good. ... Help us remember your life and wisdom in the moment of difficult decision. Help us to work with renewed vigor for a peace in this world, a just use of resources and wealth, and a brother/sisterhood that transcends race or color. Amen One of the prayers of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr

God of the threshold, this we pray: that what comes in enters by consent, by invitation... that what passes through crosses over with grace, with mercy that what dwells within resides in delight, in integrity that what goes forth emerges for peace, for blessings. Jan Richardson, Night Visions
