Lost Creek Stream Team 11.05.2021

So there's several dozen maples on Lost Creek where we're based from and we managed to make several pints of syrup last season. The last half pint was poured over homemade waffles this morning. Year-old sunshine in a jar along with eggs from Matt Diller's hens and a sixty year old waffle iron. That's what gets you out of bed on days like these.

So now that the new year has begun, we are getting our first stream team event on the calendar for 2021. Since our cleanup projects have been so successful the last few years, this March we are planning a tree planting project. Tentatively scheduled for Saturday March 6th, we will be planting trees suitable for water way and floodplain habitat. Our tree delivery has not been confirmed yet but it is anticipated to be in late February or early March. I'll update this post as we... get closer but in the meantime if you have a scout group, ecology group or any other interested party that may want to coordinate with us please feel free to reach out directly to me via email. My address is [email protected]. This project will be on Lost Creek in Warren County Missouri. Land owners on this waterway who may be interested in participating or in allowing us to plant some trees in their water way are welcome to be involved at whatever level they choose. Since 100% of Lost Creek is private property, any plantings will take place only with permission from the landowner. So happy New year. "Be the change you wish to see in the world", said every single person who planted a tree. Also Mahatma Gandhi, I looked it up. See more

Thirty minutes of me and Adam Sommer talking about Missouri streams. 6:25 through 36:00. Then keep listening for a Midwestern take on the election.

So we got our cleanup in the books for 2020. We didn't have to worry about ice for the cooler because it was about 37 degrees on the creek. New friend Debbie camped out overnight but we had a good fire going before 8 and coffee soon after. Thank you to everyone that braved the cold and the gray until the clouds parted for about five and a half seconds and reminded us why we get outdoors. The really good news is that after five outings in 2 and 1/2 years the amount of debris has been vastly improved upon. Time to find a new creek to work on this coming spring. Pictures to follow. And again, thank you, thank you!

8 more days until the streamteam cleanup event on Lost Creek in Warren County Missouri. Follow the event tab for details and directions. The short version is that we will be at base from 9 a.m. till dark and we are going to try to cover the full 11 Mile length of Lost Creek Road as it follows Lost Creek. We've never actually made it all the way because hey that's 22 miles of frontage. We'll have some signs up to let you know you're going in the right direction and we'll defin...itely have loads of food and drinks. Your well-behaved dog is welcome this year for the first time. Kid-friendly too. If you are a Jeep Club or BMW motorcycle group feel free to swing in grab something to eat and say hi and then take some mesh bags with you. You can drop them as you fill them and we will pick them up. And by the way we always have bags hanging at the gate post at about 2.5 miles down Lost Creek Road off Route U. See more

Welcome to the first day of Fall. It couldn't be more beautiful outside so I hope that you're taking advantage of the weather. Oh, and if you're still wondering about what you'll be doing and where, then of course you can come join us for the upcoming Clean Up and Cook Out on Saturday October 24. So easy to find and so much fun: clawing out old tires, finding troves of beer cans, the odd diaper now and then. There's even a stop sign dropped off complete with post and concrete ball that's recently been added to the scenery. We've relented and now welcome your well behaved dog or cat and as always, kids are welcome too. Come hungry, we'll have lots of food, coffee, water and beer (later; come on we've actually got to accomplish something).
