Check out this beautiful visual journey through three farms around the country that are growing community through food.

Great information for growing native plants in your yard.

Things have been a bit quieter at the farm this spring, but we're still out here growing food and would love for you to join in! We're keeping workdays smaller and we ask that you sign up for a time to help at the link below. Keep an eye on this signup form because new workdays are always being added based on weather and availability of farm leaders!

Hey there! We've got a new plan. The project signup form was already getting too messy, so here's a new public shift sign up form based on time rather than project. We'll keep the project list internal to our farm leaders and keep adding new work times here. We'll try to stick to a semi-regular schedule of Saturdays and Wednesdays, but will likely adjust based on weather. Keep an eye on this list for new opportunities to help! https://tinyurl.com/LongfellowFarmSignup

Good news! Growing food is an essential activity, so we will be able to continue planting at the farm during these uncertain times. However, we will not be able to host our large community workdays on Saturdays and Wednesdays. So, here is the plan - our team of farm leaders will be signing up to take on one project at a time on this Google spreadsheet: https://tinyurl.com/LongfellowFarmSignup If you want to help, find a project on the list with a leader and time that works ...for you and add your name to the helper column. We need everyone's cooperation to make sure there are no more than four people at the farm at a time, appropriate social distancing is practiced, and tools are sanitized between use. If you have questions, email us at [email protected]. Take care out there!

On Thursday we picked up our spring transplant order from Kansas City Community Gardens. Shout out to their team for calling to schedule a pick up time, then hand delivering our plants to the vehicle (with gloves!). Rather than the large community workdays we usually host, we’ve put together a google spreadsheet for our organizing team to sign up to lead projects at different times. Once the leads have signed up, we’ll share the list more widely for folks to sign up to help a few people at a time. We want to make sure to practice all the CDC recommendations of gathering only in small numbers, staying distant and clean while still growing food and community. Soon you can sign up to get your hands in the soil with your neighbors! #growingfoodandcommunity #urbangrown #kansascity #livelongfellow

Friends! With everything feeling a bit up in the air right now, it is hard to say when we’ll kick off our 2020 growing season. I had hoped it would be yesterday, but the weather and pandemic had other plans. At this time, we’ll play it by ear. Being outside is one of the safest places to be, so if weather allows and the situation feels safe, we may start having small workdays sooner than later but hold off on hugs, high fives, and working closely together. In the meantime, please stay home, stay healthy, check on your neighbors, support local businesses (from a distance, please), and know there will be some happy plants ready to get in the ground and grow food for you soon!

Spring is in the air and we’ll start planting soon! Join an impromptu pre-spring workday this Saturday, 1-3 pm, to start getting the farm ready. See you at 30th & Harrison! #livelongfellow

We are dreaming of spring! Come join us this Sunday to spread mulched leaves on all the rows to help the soil get healthy and ready for the upcoming growing season. It is going to be a warm, sunny day that is perfectly made for playing in the leaves. We will see you at 30th and Harrison on February 2nd at 12:30 PM. All are welcome! #growingcommunity #urbanfarming #longfellowfarmkc
