Lompe's Craftworks

Couldn't post this before as it was designed and carved as a Christmas gift to my brother-in-law. The center has Hebrew from Isaiah 44:5 and translates as "Yaweh's." I've not done a ton of chip carving, but after this I definitely need to do more. -David Ryan Lompe

Here are some new carvings. The two spiral Santas and the taller Nisse are on our Etsy page. They are all carved out of basswood. I use thinned acrylic paints, seal them, antique, and then wax. I turned the large Santa's base from mahogany. The walking staffs are walnut. My hands hasn't healed well enough to carve yet, but I'll be getting some more done as soon as I can

It was a beautiful day at Maramec Springs park yesterday for Old Ironworks Festival. There was a pretty good crowd out for the event. I even had a couple of kids try their hand at carving (with their parent's permission). I saw a few folks I knew and had several repeat customers. It was fun letting people know about the different types of carving and the tools used. Most of the kids and adults haven't seen this type of work. Hopefully some will get interested in it and pick up a knife and start cutting some wood. Thank you to everyone that came out yesterday.

I will be demonstrating woodcarving at Old Iron Works Day on October 9th at Maramec Spring Park in St James. They changed it to just one day this year but extended the hours to 1000 - 1800. I will post more pictures as this gets closer. Hope to see you there!

Almost looks like Vincent Van Gogh made this piece of briar.
