Before beginning her graduate studies in Health Policy and Management, Phyllis Elliott spent this summer as an #AmeriCorpsVISTA serving with Community Resource ...Center as a contact tracer for the state of Colorado. Phyllis saw this as her opportunity to gain first-hand experience in public health while also making a positive impact. She was glad to educate others on how to keep themselves and their communities safe in the hopes of curbing the spread of COVID-19. One of Literacy KC's VISTA Sub-sites is Kanbe's Markets. They have a wonderful fundraiser happening now (it was extended) featuring artwork of local Kansas City artists. Go check out their items and learn more about this amazing operation that is making fresh produce accessible to areas of the city where there is not a local full size grocery store.

Area VISTAs met this morning, via Zoom, to hear an excellent presentation on the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Presenters were Kansas City Public Library VISTA Leaders Mary Carter (in photo) and Ashly Emerson, and Kansas City Public Library VISTA Program Manager Beccah Rendall. We learned more about ADA protections and how poverty impacts people with disabilities. Great job, Mary, Ashly, and Beccah!
