Congratulations to Lew's Pro Melinda Mize on her wire-to-wire co-angler win at the BFL Regional on Table Rock this past weekend, becoming the first woman to win a Regional Championship. Here’s how she did it! I lead wire-to- wire. On the first day I threw a 1/2 oz Carolina Rig with a SK tungsten weight with a Strike King Game Hawg in Candy Craw. I dyed the tails chartreuse with Dip-N-Glo. It’s how I caught all of my fish. Day 2 I started off the day throwing a Thunder Cric...ket in white with a Menace in Glacier as the trailer. I used that when we were working flats but I would switch to the Carolina Rig on more sloping banks. I caught two on each of those. After two days, I had a 6.5 lb lead going into the final day. I ended up winning without even needing to catch one but I caught one on Day 3 on a Carolina Rig. When it’s tough it’s one of my go to setups. I threw the Thunder Cricket on a Lew's Mark Rose TLCPHJR 7’3.5 rod because as a co-angler you have to have versatile rods in case you need to change to other techniques throughout the day. This rod allows for multiple applications. The rod I threw my Carolina rig on was a Lew’s TLPTI73MH. It has the sensitivity to feel the subtleties while you’re on the hunt for scattered rock or wood.
