#tbt Fun little post from long ago. Somehow I don't think it would work on youngsters today. Speaking of icicles, be careful out there! Happy New Year to you all!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas around here. We may have lost a couple ornaments in the decorating of our tree , but we think it looks absolutely lovely and festive by the steps. We'd love to see your holiday decorations! Post a picture of your Christmas, Hanukkah, and/or Kwanzaa decor and share your holiday spirit with us!!

#tbt I posted about Isherwood and his greenhouse a while back. You can read that here: https://www.facebook.com/LCLReads/posts/2436585456378472 Here is an actual photograph of his home and greenhouses from the 1916 Constitution magazine supplement and the accompanying write-up: "One of the largest commercial greenhouses and floricultural establishments in northern Missouri belongs to and is operated by Richard L. Isherwood. Out at the west end of Calhoun Street nearly 25,000 ...square feet of glass houses and covers flowers and hot house vegetables is great variety and plans are being made to enlarge and improve the already extensive plant this spring. Mr. Isherwood besides being a practical florist finds time to serve the Chillicothe Trust Co. as its vice-president and has always taken an active part in the city’s civic affairs. Twelve years ago he became a convert to the idea of Chillicothe’s larger and bigger growth and decided that a modernly constructed and efficiently managed greenhouse and hot houses would prove profitable. His judgement has been fully attested by the success of the business which now does annually a large volume, flowers and hot house products being shipped to all towns within a radius of seventy-five miles. Besides making funeral designs, furnishing flowers and emblems for social and other functions, decorating lawns, parkways, and outdoor gardens, the Isherwood greenhouses make a specialty of hot house lettuce and tomatoes, nearly one-half of the ground space being devoted to the edibles and supplied for the early markets. A modern steam radiation plant and practical floriculturists who understand every detail of successful culture enable the Isherwood greenhouses to produce the largest variety and the highest class of flowers and vegetables and to compete with larger greenhouses. The Isherwood greenhouses offers a service in these things second to none in the country and are becoming more widely known and patronized each year. Orders received for flowers, designs, or plants are looked after by experts and are delivered by auto delivery the same day to any part of the city. In making attractive homes, in making Chillicothe parkways and public places a delight for homefolks as well as impressive to the visitor by planting the kind of plants that thrive best, it is always in order to consult Mr. Isherwood to get the best results. Visitors at the greenhouses are always welcome and the blooming flowers, immense hedge of fragrant sweet peas are a source of wonder and delight. The accompanying view gives an idea of the extent of the plant, but only a personal visit will convince of the large work going on and the up-to-date-ness of the plant. See more
