Allyson Lawson Belton City Councilwoman 03.05.2021

This is a good resource for seniors & individuals with disabilities in our community who need transportation assistance. There are time/location limitations and it’s $1.00 each way, but it’s a tool for folks to get around and shop or make appointments in Belton (1st, 2nd & 3rd Wednesdays) and medical appointments beyond Belton (Raymore, Peculiar, Harrisonville) on the 4th Wednesday.

FYI everyone! If your grass is longer than 7 inches you could get a warning from codes enforcement.

The long awaited justice for Kara & Jessica. It’s been heartbreaking to read the trial updates. If you’re in an abusive relationship and don’t know where to turn, Hope Haven of Cass County is an amazing resource.

One council meeting down! I really appreciate the trust of my neighbors and the opportunity to navigate the needs and complexities of our city on their behalf. A few highlights from tonight: Sitting among the council, reading a proclamation honoring our emergency communications folks, a West Belton buddy and supporter Mike made it out, and our excellent out-going ward 3 rep Stephanie had her precious daughter on her hip while receiving her plaque for her work on our behalf. It was a packed house tonight because so many people care about Belton.

Link to tonight’s council agenda below. There are essentially two council meetings tonight. The first concludes business of the 20/21 Council session including a final reading on the development & performance agreement between Belton and Northpoint Development, followed by swearing in the 21/22 Council and addressing agenda items. https://www.belton.org//april-13-2021-city-council-agenda-

If you’re interested in watching the council meetings, they are streamed live on YouTube at 6pm. I’m excited to show up for Ward 3 and represent our neighbors.

Yard Signs: I’d like to collect them today. If you’ve already disposed of yours, no worries. Otherwise I’ll make a pass today. If I miss you, could you message me your address so I can swing by? Thank you very much!

Thank you, everyone! I’m honored to serve as Ward 3’s newest councilwoman. I’m pretty wordy, but please forgive me for tonight. My husband and I aren’t huge gift givers to each other. There’s always something we are saving for or want to buy for our daughter instead. This brown journal was my Christmas gift. And he wrote ‘Councilwoman Lawson’ before he gave it to me. He makes me believe in myself and the good I can do. So many people have reached out to me today and many sa...id they were praying for me to win. That blows me away. This is a very serious thing to offer up a prayer on my behalf. I am so committed to doing a good job for all of my Ward 3 & Belton neighbors. Thank you all for your kind words, encouragement & prayers. Lastly, this whole thing started and ended with good neighbors. There were sidewalk talks with Stephanie Davidson about why she would vote a certain way, especially when it went against the flow. Eventually, it became a front porch chat where she described what kind of work goes into being a great Councilwoman. And she has been a great Councilwoman. Then, a very qualified, smart & good hearted neighbor considered running as well but didn’t have the time to commit so it felt like I should give it a go. And tonight, that same neighbor and his wise, patient, encouraging wife brought their family over to have a small porch party while I refreshed the results. Before I knew I won, my sweet 80-something neighbor on the other side came out to tell me congratulations. Neighbors, you make me so proud to call Belton my home. I’ll work very hard to do the same for you on the council.
