We recently did this roof for a customer, who had a new roof installed 10 years ago. They installed 35 year shingles back then. The shingles lasted less then 1/3 of the life expectancy provided by the manufacturer. The reason for this is the previous installer did not provide any ventilation of any kind. For this reason everything from the shingles down to the rood decking had to be replaced. We installed new decking, proper ridge vents for ventilation, and Owens Corning Dura...tion Shingles. Now this roof will last closer to the life expectancy provided by the manufacturer. The key to having your shingles last as close to manufacturer life expectancy is proper ventilation.
