October 26, 2020, There have been 39 new cases over the weekend and today. Lafayette County Health Department has confirmed a total of 829 cases of COVID-19 for Lafayette County to date. We urgently ask that all businesses and agencies implement social distancing and mask requirements for employees and customers.... We have community spread. Many of our new cases continue to be associated with people having things like multi household gatherings, kid’s slumber parties, and congregate settings where recommendations and guidelines are not well followed. We need to have the majority of people showing enough responsibility and compassion to those who are more likely to fall seriously ill or worse in order to stop community spread by following the recommendations and guidelines : social distancing, mask wearing in public, avoiding unnecessary gatherings and exposures, proper hand hygiene, and sneeze/cough etiquette. Stay home if you are sick. Additionally, there are those that need to be reminded to stay home if you are quarantined. It’s the law.

COVID number reporting change... Working with cases, tracking contacts, keeping up with constantly changing information on these individuals, and many other complex factors related to collating and gathering information that comes at high volumes, has made it a difficult scramble to assemble accurate daily numbers. There are often discrepancies and changes that occur with case information as situations constantly evolve. The recovered/active case numbers are particularly su...bject to rapid and frequent change. There is often also address information that needs to be corrected, and for us to receive cases from or assign to. Often the 3:00 daily update time is when we are having a flurry of activity and information changes. Therefore we will be changing the frequency of our COVID number reports to Mondays and Fridays. On Fridays we will try to provide a weekly update on the number of new cases by location. We will try to get these out between 3:00 and 4:00 on those days. Any important and breaking information other than our regular numbers reporting will of course be shared that day. Thank you for your understanding and support.
