MASS TEXTING UPDATE: This will show as a direct text message from me to each of those on the list! No sharing of names or phone #'s ! Just like when you text back & forth with anyone. Each person will have opportunity to individually ask me questions at anytime! Partially automated but a little more time consuming for me but as I said more personalized & getting only to those that want notifications. Anyone can choose to be eliminated at anytime! I will be phasing out Faceboo...k alerts after bridge is completed & use the mass texting to those that are only interested in City happenings. Eliminates negative discussion! I took a break last night but going to be going back & checking my list of contacts to make sure I have included all that messaged me when app was first introduced & the enormous response of those yesterday. At this point rather than leaving a comment on Facebook to be included it would be best to text me with your name so all I have to do is create a contact. I will be including obituary notice with only a link to the funeral home handling the arrangements so the text isn't massive. This is very important because sometimes that type of information is delayed due to lack of daily newspapers. Most funeral homes have Facebook & websites that I monitor a couple times a day. Thanks for supporting me & your patience... my job is to serve those that want to be served. Lois 660-341-2221 See more

La Plata, Missouri Police Department 22.02.2021

Evening weather update: No major changes after most of the evening models are in. Still looking like the northern track is holding strong, thus less snow and mo...re ice. Kirksville, it looks like about 4in of snow, and maybe a tenth inch of ice. La Plata, it looks like 2in of snow and two-tenths of an inch of ice. Start time tomorrow morning will be around the 6-7am time frame and may initially start out as snow, quickly changing to sleet and freezing rain. There could be a brief lull in the precip late morning through the noon hour. But the next wave moves back in during the afternoon and brings more mixed precip, before changing to snow after dark. The changeover will occur a little faster in KV compared to LP, thus more snow for KV. There will be major differences in snowfall amounts, for instance, Macon may barely see a dusting, La Plata 1-2, Kirksville 4-5, and Lancaster 6-8. Stay safe everyone tomorrow.

The duty of the La Plata Police Department is to "Protect & Serve" the community. From time to time the LPD officers are called upon by surrounding law agencies to assist in detaining suspects. When those instances occur it is the decision of the requesting agency to give approval for the release of the subject detained. The officers of the LPD are respectful & trained officers of the law that "Protect & Serve" our community. Thanks for your service, Mayor Bragg
