To our customers- the normal, hardworking, resilient people that are my dearest friends and family- I’ve been thinking a lot about how hard this life can be the past week, that has seemed like eternity. It seems we’ve all been running a marathon with no finish line, we’re doing it all without any promise of a positive outcome. We’re doing it without questioning the mental, physical, and financial consequences. Growing up I dried off, warmed up, fed, named, loved, and even br...ushed the teeth (with my prized Minnie Mouse toothbrush) of several calves that made it, and several that did not. I can’t tell you all the outcomes, but I’m certain the things they taught me have been the best foundation for life my family could have given me. Explaining this life to my own babies is a constant, sometimes they make it, sometimes they don’t, we don’t get to decide, our job is to do the best we can for them and love them. It’s amazing how resilient farm kids are. Today, I was frustrated seeing how many people through the entire Midwest were hurting. Yes, it’s been brutal here, but we have hay, our animals are used to (on occasion) a day or two of bad weather.... this week it has snowed and been this cold places where they don’t even put up hay. Can you imagine doing this without hay? To me, the Midwest is the heartbeat of the good of this country, it’s difficult to not feel slightly forsaken when the wind is relentlessly cold and seemingly never ending. When everything is too cold to work and you’re just exhausted. We’re often reminded that God doesn’t give us anything he doesn’t feel confident we can handle (with His help), and I can’t help but wonder.... if it wasn’t for the American farmers and ranchers, who else would be able to handle this? Who else is strong enough, loves enough, cares enough to continue on in conditions like this? I’m so proud to know you all, to be able to provide the boots and clothing that you and your family wear as you brave the elements and care for the lives of your livestock, as well as your livelihood. It’s such an honor to me to know we have had a small part in helping you the past few, very meaningful weeks of work for you.
