Our latest TNR mission targeted the town of Crocker. These community cats enjoy the food of several local feeders and have several area shelter opportunities, but the locals wanted to make sure their numbers didn’t continue to grow. With their mating instincts intact, a few of the toms showed years worth of fighting and competition for the ladies in the area. Soon after fixing, those impulses will diminish and will result in a significant reduction in cuts, scapes, and bite ...wounds in the future. Kitten Division is an all volunteer crew that relies solely on community donations to maintain our shelter services and community cat missions. On Thursday I took a little drive over to a property in Waynesville that had been feeding a colony. We were able to trap up, fix, and vaccinate these 13 beauties! Out of that lot, 10 were females! They would have had one heck of a kitten season this year for sure! No more! Now all these kitties have to worry about is getting fed and a quiet place to rest their heads. Hello everyone! My name is Lark and I’ve been here a while. 108 days and counting. I feel like it’s time for me to find my furever home. I’m what they call a Torbi and I’m about 5 years old. I’m fixed, microchipped, and current on my vaccines. ... I love people and my toy monkey, so monkey is coming with me as well. However, I do need to be the only cat in my new home. But that’s ok because me and monkey are really all you’ll ever need! I do need to let you know that sometimes I can be kind of moody; you know, I’m sure it’s the same for you, everybody needs their me time; BUT once I know you, I will be your soul mate. Please give me a chance to be part of your family! Come see me and fall in love during the special adoption event at Kitten Division Me and monkey will be waiting.

Yesterday was quite a day at Kitten Division! I was making plans to get some kittens in Rolla when we got a call from a family that needed to surrender their cats due to an unfortunate life circumstance. The shelter offered to help and off I went to pick up their lovely kitties. In total we took in 8 cats including a momma and her recently born four little kittens. Many of these cats will be available for adoption as early as tomorrow! As soon as they were all set in the shel...ter I was off again to grab up the three 6-7 week old kittens that were born outside up in Rolla. These lovelies are very sweet! In just a couple of weeks they’ll be off to the vet for fixing, vaccinations, and chipping and be ready for adoption. While I was heading out for that lot, another momma and her young kittens who were picked up in Dixon were being surrendered to the shelter as well! Unfortunately momma and all her kittens are sick with upper respiratory infections. It was so great that they came in when they did. One important reason for fixing your cats, and especially doing TNR of community cats, is that often these infections can be a death sentence for tiny kittens if left untreated. Your continued support to help us maintain our TNR program to prevent sick kitties from being born and dying in the wild, as well as taking advantage of our low cost/spay neuter clinic for your indoor and outdoor pets helps keep our local cat population healthy and happy, and prevents unwanted suffering and hardship. Kitten season is really ramping up, as the calls for help with unwanted kittens come in daily (read that as hourly). We could really use more foster families. Kittens are a commitment of anywhere from a couple weeks to a couple months depending on their age and health (don’t worry, we will teach you how to give them medicine if they need it!). Being a foster family is a great way to get your kitten fix of playing with cute cuddly kittens (and sometimes mom too) without keep...ing any of them or having to pay for their vetting! If you have some room in your home and you’re interested in fostering, you can sign up here: http://kittendivision.com/volunteer/foster-application/ With all the calls for help with kittens means we go through a LOT of kitten chow, both here in our facility and sending it out to our foster families (yes, we even provide food to our fosters so they don’t have to buy food for them unless they want too). So we are in desperate need of kitten chow and NON seafood flavored pate canned food (adult chow is also appreciated for our adults at the facility who are waiting for their furever families to come find them) right now. You can find our wishlists with all the brands of food we prefer here: (Chewy) https://www.chewy.com/g/tnr-a-better-chance_b71477932 or (Amazon) https://smile.amazon.com/hz/charitylist/ls/EPYFC5HW3SAB/ However, if you’re lucky enough to not have unwanted kittens...yet, the easiest way to avoid unwanted kittens is to spay and neuter your cats. We offer a low cost spay and neuter clinic for cats (we hope to have one for dogs in the future!) where it will cost you about $65 to spay/neuter and vaccinate your cat. You want read about our low cost clinic (and even sign up) here: http://kittendivision.com/low-cost-spay-clinic/ #spayandneuter #spayandneuteryourpets #spayandneutersaveslives #neuter #neuteriscuter #spay #lowcostspayandneuter #kittenseason #kittens #cats #fosteringsaveslives #fostercat

Calling all local cat lovers! We continue to grow year after year, which means so does the amount of work our staff (ALL are unpaid volunteers) has to do. This means we need more volunteers to help us out. Now if you’re thinking to yourself, I don’t know how to ______. Do not fear! We can and will teach you. Almost every single one of us walked into our volunteer roles with no clue how to do much. We’ve all learned as we went, and we continue to learn to always do better b...y the animals we are called to save. We have a need for everything from cleaning (it’s more than just litter boxes), to treating sick cats, to adoption coordinators (people who process adoptions), to TNR workers, etc. It won’t always be pretty, but aside from the adoption coordinator, most of our positions require little interaction with the public. And the more people who help, the faster jobs can be done and the less we have to rely so heavily on a small group of people. If you’re interested in volunteering, please sign up here and someone will be in touch soon: http://kittendivision.com/volunteer/

Mother Nature and I need to have a talk! Last TNR day it was wind, rain, and snow. Yesterday’s TNR was frigid temperatures, freezing rain, and sleet! Regardless of our shaky relationship we still got our kitties. Our goal was to retrieve this big handsome tom and his calico sidekick from one location and trap these two adorable black kittens from another. Our big boy and the calico will be returning to their caretakers tomorrow and these little black ones will be moving to f...oster care to take care of some ouchies. When they are all better they will be staying with us to be put up for adoption. For informational purposes only. Any negative comments will be removed. In 2019 St. Louis City became the first city in the Midwest to ban declawing of cats. As of last night, it has also been banned in the entire St. Louis County. This refers to elective declawing of cats, which is the vast majority of cases. While rare, there are times when it is medically necessary, which is still allowed.

Did you know February is #BlackCatSyndromeAwarenessMonth? Black kitties struggle to find homes, and spend statistically more time in a shelter or rescue than other colors/patterns of cats. They can be the most loving cuddly cat (and many of them are) you will ever meet and are still less likely to be picked than their prettier counterparts. Next time you’re looking to adopt, please consider giving a black kitty a chance! #blackcat #adoptdontshop #rescuesaveslives #adoptionsaveslives
