Congratulations to Rhonda Vincent for being inducted into the Grand Old Opry last night. We are very happy for you. The honor was well deserved. Her performance is about 24 minutes into this video. Rhonda looks absolutely gorgeous and her performance was wonderful, as usual.
This is the final week we will have Jennifer Daniel's baskets available at the Sue Ross Arts Center. She is an amazing weaver.
Kirksville Arts is in the process of restoring the original tile mosaic murals. The panels that were able to be removed from the old Arts Center intact have been installed in the hallway at the Sue Ross Arts Center. Ashton Clema has done a fantastic job creating new panels with the loose tiles that will be installed when finished. We are now ready to mortar and grout the new murals. If you would be interested in helping with this process, please give us a call at 665-0500. We will maintain more than a 6 ft. distance between workers and will have gloves, masks and hand sanitizer available. We are excited to see this project come to completion.
We are thrilled to announce Ashton Clema is the new Arts Administrator for Kirksville Arts. She began working today at the Sue Ross Arts Center. Ashton has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design with a minor in Marketing from Culver Stockton College. She and her husband Brandon live on a farm and we are over the moon that she has joined us at KAA. Stop by to introduce yourself and wish Ashton well.
During our tile making project a year ago, we had a lot of Chiefs tile made. This one was made by one of Jennifer Hannold Wilson's art students at Green City. We hope they have another successful Superbowl again today!
During the months of January and February we are going to begin restoring the original mosaic murals salvaged from the fire a few years ago. While a few of the panels survived intact, many of them did not and the tiles had to be removed from the broken panels. Some of the individual tiles are a little battered, overall they are still quite striking to see. They have quite a story to tell. We were fortunate to have the grandson of Sue Ross volunteer to organize a group of b...oy scouts to remove the mortar and grout from the tiles. The tiles have been cleaned and are now ready to be restored and placed on display at the Sue Ross Arts Center. This is going to be quite a task. If anyone is interested in volunteering for this project please give us a call at 665-0500. We will be limiting the number of people working on this to ensure physical distancing See more
We are looking forward to having the original mural restored! Thanks to KTVO for coming out and covering this story.
