Gators Athletics Update KIPP Legacy High School is excited to introduce our first head track and strength & conditioning coach, Jamel Sims!! Coach Jamel Sims graduated from Hickman Mills High School in Kansas City, Missouri. He very quickly became one of the school most successful athletes during his Freshman year as a Varsity Letterman in football, wrestling, and track & field. Jamel maintained those honors as well as adding many academic honors throughout his high scho...ol career. Outside of high school, he ran AAU and USA Track & Field and achieved multiple National Championship honors in multiple events. Jamel’s passion for sports and athletic training later allowing him play football and run track at the University of Missouri-Rolla, now known as Missouri S&T. While attending MST, he received 3 business degrees with 3 minors and an MBA. While working towards his MBA, he began studying and pursuing his love for sports through athletic and performance training as a certified personal trainer. Coach Sims is a winner, and he knows how to motivate kids. Coach Sims is a quality person who shares our commitment to fostering growth for all student athletes and continuing to build or track and field and strength and conditioning programs in all facets, Coach Cobbins said. I have had the pleasure of working with Coach Sims and watching him develop so many kids over the years. I was so impressed by the energy and unity of his athletes. Coach Sims will bring that same energy and integrity to our program that he established over his years of coaching and training. I am pleased to welcome Coach Sims to the KIPP Legacy High School Gators.

KIPP Legacy Gator HS Update The birth of KIPP Legacy Boys’ Basketball Program begins as Jacob Derritt has been selected as the very first Head Boys Basketball Coach to build and develop the program from the ground up. Coach Derritt enters his first season at KIPP Legacy after spending almost 13 years working with numerous programs and clubs. He brings with him a long line of experience and ideas to incorporate into the new-found program at KIPP Legacy High School. This... past year, Derritt worked as the Assistant Coach at William Chrisman High School in Independence, Missouri where he continued to improve their program by providing defensive game plans for opponents and mentoring players. Currently, Coach Derritt is the Vice President of Business Banking at JP Morgan Chase and he assist with Michael Porter Jr.'s grassroots AAU basketball program MPJ Elite in Columbia, MO. Today, he is excited to continue to use his ideas and experience to build KIPP:KC Legacy basketball program from the ground. Our Legacy is now!!!
