I've been reading a book by Dietrich Bonhoeffer entitled The Cost Of Discipleship. It's been talking about grace. Cheap grace and costly grace and the difference in his eyes. Cheap grace amounts to justification of sin without the justification of the repentant sinner who departs from sin and from whom sin departs. Cheap grace is the preaching of forgiveness without requiring repentance. Cheap grace is grace without discipleship, grace without the cross, grace without Je...sus Christ, living and incarnate. Costly grace is the treasure hidden in the field, for the sake of it a man gladly goes and sells all he has. Such grace is costly because it calls us to follow, to follow Jesus Christ. It costs a man his life and gives man the only true life. It is costly because it condemns sin, and grace because it justifies the sinner. It is costly because it cost God the life of His Son. It wasn't too great a price for God to pay. It got me to thinking. Have we, the church, gotten away from really teaching and emphasing how much grace cost? God's grace is sufficient, but doesn't He want us to change our lifestyle as we receive His grace? After receiving grace, we shouldn't keep living the same lifestyle, because it cost so very much. It cost the life of Jesus. We were bought at a price. Let us a life that reflects how great a price that was. Glory Him. See more
