When a group of 600 nuns chose to donate their brains to a University of Minnesota study 30 years ago, they did so in the hopes of advancing the fight against Alzheimer’s disease. But no one could anticipate the most crucial piece of the study’s revelatory findings: their handwritten autobiographies. Happy Doctor's Day! Simply put, physicians are at the core of what we do. We rely on their expert directives to create the best care for our home health patients and the appreciation runs deep. Did you know Doctor's Day originated in Georgia? Eudora Brown Almond, the wife of a doctor in Winder, Georgia, petitioned for the holiday until its first observation on March 30, 1933. The date also marks the anniversary of the first use of ether anesthesia by Dr. Crawford W. Long. Learn more about the history of Doctor's Day and thank a doctor in your life to mark the occasion! https://nationaltoday.com/doctors-day/

In honor of Black History month, we’re shining the spotlight on Black Americans whose contributions have made it possible for us to live our mission of providing extraordinary service and compassionate care. This week, we celebrate pioneering biochemist Dr. Marie Maynard Daly, who became the first Black woman in the U.S. to earn a Ph.D. in chemistry. A valiant researcher, she studied how the body constructs proteins, the cause of heart attacks, and subsequently outlined the connection between diet and heart health. Daly also encouraged minority students to pursue higher education in STEM fields.
It takes some time for your stomach to tell your brain it's full. This holiday season, avoid overeating by taking a 10-minute break after your first serving of food. You just may realize you've had enough.
