Traffic Alert: Look for extensive road closures as the Route 92 improvement project gets underway in Clay County, STARTING in Smithville. The Missouri Department of Transportation will make the following traffic changes as part of the Route 92 improvement project in Clay County. Crews will close all lanes of eastbound and westbound Route 92 between Liberty St. and Mount Olive Rd., beginning Monday, March 22 and continuing through Saturday, May 1 for route improvement work.... This will be a 24/7 closure. All work is weather dependent. This is all part of a multi-phase road widening and safety improvement project. Crews will widen lanes and shoulders along the route, turn lanes will be added and the route will be resurfaced. The project is expected to be completed by the fall of 2022. For complete details of the project, go to https://www.modot.org/route-92-roadway-safety-improvement-p Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway. Smithville Area Fire Protection District

Burning should be avoided again today. But it looks like help is on the way with a chance of storms Wednesday night.

Kearney Fire & Rescue Protection District 02.02.2021

EXTREME FIRE DANGER please avoid burning today. We are under a Red Flag Warning due to low humidity, heat, and high winds. Even the smallest of fires can get out of control very rapidly.

While the year 2020 had some changes in the way we operate, it was yet again a record breaking year for us. The final call of the year came just before the new year began. #20-1877 was the final call for the year 2020. These numbers do not include the numerous other activities we do daily around our district such as CPR classes, Fire Prevention/Safety Talks, smoke detector installations etc. Comparing these numbers with the past decade we did some digging through old files to... show you a run down. In 1980 the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department ran 132 calls for service. In 1990 they ran 209 calls for service. In the year 2000 just nine years after the formation of Kearney Fire & Rescue Protection District members ran 986 calls for service. In 2010, that increased to 1,189 calls. Over the last decade the city of Kearney has grown exponentially, just as the city as grown so have we, in the number of personnel we have working daily to provide the best possible service to our district’s citizens and those that visit. We hope everyone has a Happy & Safe New Year! See more

If you happen to get out today to clean the snow off of your driveway and sidewalks, don’t forget about the fire hydrants around you. The few minutes it takes to do this task could be life saving when the unthinkable happens.

Please plan accordingly when celebrating the new year and be aware of the hazardous road conditions that will be present late this evening and tomorrow.

A wintry mix has impacted our area today, and as temperatures continue to drop you should continue to take caution. Crews have responded to several accidents today. More snow is in the forecast for the end of the week as we ring in the new year. As always, drive with caution, turn your lights on when wipers are required, and MOVE OVER & SLOW DOWN for emergency vehicles! #DriveSafely #PhotoArchive
