Kemp Lake

On January 21st, volunteer Marc Bailey and Kemp Lake personnel washed 30 tons of agricultural lime into the cold water. In short, liming is that this helps the fishing a lot by boosting the phytoplankton which, in turn, feeds the whole food chain. Thank you Marc for all the help and hard work!

On Sunday, January 10th, Dane Horine, a muscular distrophy fighter, went varmit hunting. The good news is that we have more and larger deer on the property. The bad news is that more coyotes and bobcats have been showing up because of that. Dane has some pretty sophisticated night vision and thermal optics to try to help curb the nocturnal varmits’ growth. Here he is sighting in his equipment. ... On a more somber note, Dane is a regular at Kemp Lake and has hunted and fished there as much as anyone. He is moving to Kansas City and so we will not be seeing as much of Dane as usual. Good Luck Dane!! We will miss your smiling face! Hopefully you can come back every once in a while.

On Saturday, 1/23, active duty Matt McCabe - with Senior Guide Derek McCulloch also of Fallen Outdoors - went on a successful raccoon hunt.

Last Sunday, 12/20, a number vets, wounded warriors and about 9 beagles descended on Kemp Lake for a rabbit hunt on a nice warm day. Hard to imagine anything that makes a beagle happier than looking for rabbits with a bunch of other beagles! Senior Guide, Derek McCulloch, pulled the group together and guided the mayhem. The doggies scared up a lot of rabbits - in between smelling each other - and 5 rabbits were taken. ... Good job guys!
