Recently we collaborated with Professor Hugh Merrill and his students from the Kansas City Art Institute. Hugh's students took a short story or poem one of our veterans authored and reflected it into a visual art piece. All the art turned out great and we look forward to working with Hugh and his students in the future.

Glue, maps, photos and paper flew across the tables at our fourth session Fall 2019 Veterans Writing Workshop hosted by Missouri Humanities Council and Kansas City Veterans Writing Team. During this session, vets created "mapping collages" that represent from a location perspective the military experience they are writing about in the workshop. Their work is so impressive that their collages and writings will be displayed at The Studios Inc in the Crossroads of KCMO during t...he month of November. More details to come. The vets will also read their exhibit writing at the Veterans Reader's Theater at Kansas City Public Library - Plaza Branch on November 13 at 7p.m. Free and open to the public. More details to come. Thanks to our instructor, Julie Urbanick, curator, Poppy DiCandeloro and helper John Campbell for seeing us through this challenging, yet enjoyable experience. Team members: Virginia Ginger Roberts Brackett, Diana Platt, Nicholas Lopez, George Pettigrew, Mickey Dyer and HC Palmer. Nothing is possible without our supporters: Missouri Humanities Council, Missouri Arts Council, Veterans of Foreign Wars VFW, Kansas City Public Library - Plaza Branch, The Story Center at MCPL, Moral Injury Association of America and our donors. Now, onto our final session! See more

Excellent discussion and learnings at the second session of the Missouri Humanities Council and Kansas City Veterans Writing Team writing workshop for past or present military and veteran family members. Thanks to Dr. James Brubaker for sharing his knowledge about writing prose. Next week Dr. Virginia Brackett leads our veterans on pulling together that final piece of poetry or prose. Thanks to Kansas City Public Library - Plaza Branch for hosting and our phenomenal volunteers for organizing: Nicholas Lopez, Diana Platt, George Pettigrew, Virginia Ginger Roberts Brackett, Mickey Dyer and HC Palmer. Our funders make it all possible Missouri Humanities Council, Missouri Arts Council, Moral Injury Association of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars VFW, The Story Center at MCPL and individual donors.
