Winter reading at the North-East Branch is on fire! A special THANK YOU goes out to our local firefighters Kansas City Missouri Fire Department (KCFD) KCFD Station 27(KCFD) pumper 27 who recently visited our branch. They gave a quick story time for our staff members, browsed our collection of books, and learned all about the resources our branch provides. We hope you enjoyed the cookbooks and look forward to seeing you all again soon! In honor of Gloria Jean Watkins better known by her pen name bell hooks. As a woman of color, she surpassed so many boundaries as an American author, professor, feminist, and social activist. Her memory will live on as we continue to make strides in social activism for women and people of color. May she rest in power! Diana Recommends: Grady Hendrix is an author that deserves more recognition. He is definitely competition for Stephen King. His novel, Horrorstör, designed to look and read like a catalog, has a group of employees being paid to to spend the night at Orsk (an Ikea knockoff), to find out who, or what, is destroying the store while it is closed. My Best Friend’s Exorcism is exactly what you would expect based on the title, but it is so much more than that. It is a book about a ...lifetime friendship. Each chapter is the title of a song and there is a Spotify playlist for it. We Sold Our Souls will get the attention of anyone who grew up in the 90’s and listened to hard core rock music. The title of every chapter is the name of a heavy metal album. I laughed. I cried. And I gagged as I read these books. I became friends with the characters. Grady’s next book, The Final Girl Support Group, will be out in June 2021; and I can’t wait to read it! https://kclibrary.bibliocommons.com//1770943489_grady_hend See more
