It's mid-September 2020. Here are a few helpful tips as we move into the Fall and Winter seasons. *Best time to over seed a lawn is mid September through early October *Lawn preparation for over seeding is critical to success *Cut and bag grass to a height of 2" minimum before aeration and/or dethatching and over seeding... *Aerate and/or dethatch the lawn before you over seed *Following dethatching, mow and bag grass clippings before you over seed *Choose the best seed for your lawn needs....Kansas City is a great bluegrass-tall fescue mix climate *Apply a good starter fertilizer after over seeding the lawn *It is important to apply the seed and fertilizer at recommended rates, apply seed at heavier rates on bare spots *Water the lawn daily for the first 10-14 days following over seeding....best time is early morning hours, avoid standing water *Wait until the new grass has germinated and rooted well before the first mowing following over seeding Apply a good winter fertilizer application in early November to jump start the lawn into Spring 2021. The weather has been fairly cooperative this season, we've had moisture with a few dry spells. Overall though, it's been a good season for the lawns. But, as with most years, changing weather patterns and conditions come unique challenges with our lawns. We're heading into the fall season so it's time to gear up....aerating,... over seeding, fall fertilization, weed control. We can help.
