Leaf debris can cause major problems, so please try to keep leaves and other debris out of storm drains. If you just occasionally allow these items wash down in... the drains, that can multiply by the thousands of other homes and clump together in the pipe systems, which then prevents water from flowing to area streams and away from paved surfaces. There is no need to remove plastic windows from envelopes before tossing them into your recycling bin. The paper recycling facility can remove them during the pulping process. #TuesdayTip
We know that there are many factors to consider when purchasing products. Because it’s a lesser-known issue, we have chosen to focus on raising awareness of the... issues surrounding the use of palm oil, and its harmful effects on wildlife when it’s produced unsustainably. By adding this knowledge to the conversation, we hope consumers can take all of their passions into account when making buying choices. See more

We have some BIG news! White Oak Conservation will soon be the new home for 30 Asian elephants - the largest Asian elephant herd in the Western Hemisphere! We h...ave started construction on a new 2,500-acre home for Asian elephants. Most of these elephants previously traveled throughout the United States with Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey until they were retired in 2016. The spacious habitats will give the elephants room to wander, exercise, and forage. White Oak’s philosophy is to accommodate natural behavior and social bonds as closely as possible. There will be nine interlinked areas opened for the elephants. The area will include a variety of vegetation and habitat types for the elephants to choose from, including wetlands, meadows, and woods. We are excited to have the opportunity to provide these elephants with a new home. You can read more about it here: http://bit.ly/WOelephants We will keep you updated here and on other social media as we move forward with the project. We appreciate your continued support! We couldn’t do it without you!
Turtles In Trouble The Yellow-Headed Box Turtle (Cuora aurocapitata) was first described as recently as 1988. Unfortunately, its attractive golden markings mad...e it immediately coveted in the pet trade and within 10 years of over harvesting, along with other strains, the population had collapsed. It is listed as one of the 25 Most Endangered Species of Tortoises and Freshwater Turtles in the World. Today there are less of these turtles found in the wild than in human care. It’s estimated 80% of the world’s population lives under skyglow- the inability to see the full, natural night sky. This flood of artificial light disrupts our... natural rhythms and the rhythms of wildlife. The result is increased energy consumption, decreased production of melatonin, needed for health and immunity, in humans and hazards to wildlife. The Los Angeles sky glow is visible by planes 200 miles away, but that wasn’t the case in 1994 when an earthquake caused a city-wide blackout. People became so concerned over a large cloud over the city they started calling 911. What was that cloud? It was the Milky Way and they had not seen it before.
