Grieving the loss of a loved one is difficult at any time, but never more so than during the holidays. Rosilyn, Latrice, Pamela and Jennifer had a great time dressing up for the KCPD East Patrol's Trunk or Treat yesterday -- and we think all the kids had a great time, too! Thanks to the East Patrol for inviting us to be part of this fun event.

Thanks to KCTV 5 for recognizing the great work that our volunteers do in making weekly phone calls to families who have lost a loved one to homicide -- between 350-400 calls every month. Congratulations to Ann Murphy, Ph.D., the recipient of the 2020 Unity Award in the Individuals category! Ann, who is a sergeant with the KCPD, founded a program called Youth Rise to get young men and women in high-risk neighborhoods involved with soccer. The program now has 12 soccer teams, and a number of their players who graduate from high school each year receive college scholarships! Thanks to Dr. Murphy for providing this opportunity for at-risk youth to have goals and dreams for their futures!

Congratulations to Sheffield Place, recipient of the 2020 Unity Award in the organizations category! Sheffield Place. For nearly 30 years, Sheffield Place has served women and children dealing with homelessness, and they work cooperatively with the KCMO Police Dept. to offer education and activities to the families living at Sheffield Place. They also have purchased and rehabbed vacant homes in their neighborhood to provide long-term housing for the families who "graduate" from the Sheffield Place program. Thanks to Sheffield Place for all you do to strengthen our community!
