Such a cool project designed to plant native trees along the Missouri River and Katy Trail!
Nearly all of the west management section (Clinton to Pilot Grove) and the Rock Island Spur was affected by the recent ice and snow storm on January 1. The debris removal process will likely take many days or even weeks, so thank you for your patience as we work on the clean-up.
The Rock Island Spur celebrates its birthday on December 10th. Happy Birthday!
Guess who made the list? That's right...Katy Trail State Park! Thanks for recognizing KTSP as one of the most scenic bike trails.
Old railroad signal lights can be found along the Katy Trail. These are remnants of the trail’s previous life as a railroad corridor. Pictured here is a signal light outside of Pilot Grove, toward Clifton City.
From all of us at Missouri State Parks, we wish you a Happy Thanksgiving and hope you’re able to take some time to reflect on what you’re thankful for this year. We have so much to be thankful for this holiday season our volunteers, visitors and team.
Winter has decided to give us a sneak preview. Effective Monday, October 26, some of the Katy Trail's flush restrooms and water hydrants will be closed for the remainder of the on-season due to freezing conditions. The closures will remain in effect after November 1, which is the beginning of the normal off-season. The closures will affect the following trailheads on the West Section and the Rock Island Spur: ... Clinton, Calhoun, Windsor, Green Ridge, Sedalia, Medford, and Leeton. As always, please check the following advisory page while you are planning your trip to the Katy Trail, and we do apologize for this inconvenience. https://mostateparks.com//katy-trail-state-park-advisory-m https://mostateparks.com/advisories?parks=53010
All 287.5 miles of the Katy Trail contain unique scenic characteristics just like this pictured section between Pilot Grove and Clifton City. Fall weather is the perfect time to enjoy these areas, be thankful, and spend time outdoors with close family. Take part in #OptOutside this year on November 27th.
The few weeks of mid-October are the most colorful fall days of the year. One of the early changers, Virginia Creeper, can really make a stance. The leaves of the vine have 5 leaflets and turn a beautiful orange, red, and brown color. Many trees along the Katy Trail have this vine crawling up their trunks.
Wildlife enjoy the Katy Trail as much as we do! The unique protected habitat surrounding the trail can really connect wildlife from one place to another. Pictured here is a three-toed box turtle utilizing the trail to travel.
The Katy Trail will be closed daily from 7 am to 4 pm between MM 48.1 at Pittman Hill Rd to MM 56 at the Weldon Spring Trailhead starting Tuesday, Oct. 13 through Thursday, Oct. 15 due to surfacing work. Please avoid this area due to dump trucks and other heavy equipment!
Fall is the perfect time of year to enjoy the Katy Trail. Leaves are changing and cooler temperatures are blowing in. Take some time to stroll, bike, or ride while the weather and colors last.
Take your time as you hike, bike, or horse ride on the Katy Trail and the Rock Island Spur. (Check the link below for the map and permitted uses on the trail.) Moving just a little slower and paying a little bit more attention to the sides of the trail might show you some surprises. Pictured here are wood ears, an edible mushroom that fruits on decaying wood. ... https://mostateparks.com/page/57750/entire-trail
The Katy Trail and the Rock Island Spur offer many different kinds of views from one side of the state to the other. Pictured here is a break in the tree line that overlooks a local farmer’s field.
