Direct trade what do you mean? At Kapeh Utz, we see direct trade as an opportunity to have personal partnerships with producers across the globe in order to provide an international market for their coffees. // . .... #specialtycoffee #kapehutzcoffee #kapehutz #greencoffee #coffeeimporting #localbusiness #directtrade #smallbusiness See more

At Kapeh Utz, we think listening to each other is really important. Our company was born out of the conversations we had with our friends & neighbors in Guatemala. Over and over, they told us that if we really wanted to do something to improve the quality of life for small communities in Guatemala, we should buy their coffee. Sowe listened, started a business, and began to buy coffee!

Our long-time friend Felipe of San Lucas Toliman, Guatemala, was the first coffee producer we worked with! In 2007, he rode a bike from his fields down the volcano to bring us samples, and we decided to take the leap and import his coffee.

Ever wondered what our name means? Kapeh Utz (pronounced cape' ootz) means "good coffee" in the Mayan language of Kaqchikel. --- Kaqchikel is one of many languages spoken in the Western Highlands of Guatemala, the area where we first started buying coffee from small producers in 2007. Stay tuned for the next couple of weeks as we share the story of how our company got started!

Nearly 2500 small producers make up the Arisarina Cooperative, where our FTO Sumatran coffee is produced. Coops are really beneficial for small farmers - not only do they enable producers to earn higher prices for their coffee, they also create community and common goals among producers of a certain region.

Our newest offering has landed - an FTO (Fair Trade Organic) Sumatran! Produced by the Arisarina Cooperative, this coffee was grown at an altitude of 1600-1700 m in the Gayo region of the Aceh Province. Let us know if you'd like a sample!

Meet Gabriel, one of the producers of our Brazil Rose Diamond coffee! Gabriel and his wife Ana Maria own Fazenda Mombuca, one of two farms where Rose Diamond is grown. Their farm has grown a ton in the last 13 years due to their constant improvements in the way they process coffee

Our new crop of Brazil Rose Diamond is here! This coffee is a blend of two farms from the Sul de Minas region in Brazil and is one of our favorites. It is a floral and well balanced cup with hints of creamy milk chocolate, a cashew nuttiness, and a smooth mouthfeel. If you're interested in ordering a sample or a few sacks, our email & phone number is in our bio!

COVID-19 is touching every corner of our world as we know it, including the coffee industry. Coffee shops and roasters aren't the only ones being effected - importers and producers are feeling the impacts of the virus as well. If you're interested in learning more, read this awesome article, and as always keep supporting local and staying safe!

When we travel around Guatemala, we get the chance to experience the unique sights, sounds, and smells that its cities & regions hold. While these places and the cultures they hold are very diverse, one thing is for sure - there's nothing quite like the roadside views in Guatemala!

Super interesting read about peaberry coffee beans - how they form, what makes them unique, and the best ways to roast them!

Taking extra time today to think about all the small producers and businesses we partner with as COVID-19 is beginning to have a deep impact on the way they operate and live. We know that in times like this, strong communities who are willing to think outside of themselves are essential. Stay safe, support local businesses in any way you can, and take care of yourself and the people you love.
