Tonight is the night! I'm so proud of these students, and so excited to celebrate this moment in their journey as musicians. If you want to get inspired by some bright and shining people, join us at Homers Coffee in Overland Park at 6:30 tonight.

Summer is a perfect time for students to start playing the guitar. Without a regular school schedule it's an amazing outlet for all of that brain power! Email/ shoot me a text if you or someone you know wants to make a little more music this summer

When Keely's older sister moved out she knew exactly what to do with the spare bedroom! This room is packed with all things creativity and music. SO AWESOME. This is the perfect space for lessons, writing songs (Keely is a natural born lyricist and musician), teaching her little sister Kylee some chords on the ukulele, or jamming out to some Pink Floyd with her dad on the drums. I am so blessed to teach music to such a gifted family. Rock on Kovaleski's, rock on.

When Madi and I sat down for our first guitar lesson early this fall I asked her what her goals were with her instrument. She replied without hesitation that she wanted to learn how to play "Silver wings" by Merle Haggard. This legendary country ballad is pretty far from my usual request for first song, especially from a 15yr old girl (Maroon 5, Taylor Swift, and Ed Sheeran are my usual requests.) I had no idea why this song was so important to her at the time, but she dedica...ted herself to learning it and mastered this song this fall. More recently, in our lesson after Thanksgiving break, I asked her what she loved most about her holiday. She told me that her favorite part of the weekend was spending quality time with her grandfather, and playing Silver Wings with him.. My heart was completely full in that moment. This is why I love to teach music, and why I believe that sharing the journey with my students is the way to ultimate expression. Madi is one of many students with whom I have the honor of sharing my time and passion for music. If you are looking for someone who is invested in your creative success, or if you know someone who is looking for a teacher, I would be honored to play that role in your life. I teach Electric Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Bass, Drums, and Ukulele all over the Kansas City Metro. Visit jtmusicmentor.com to schedule your first lesson.

Yesterday I got to teach Coldplay's "Fix You" back to back with Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song". Somebody pinch me.
