Running a restaurant has always been challenging, and has been no less so during this past year. As a staff, we take it personally when, in the course of a given service, we fail to make a guest happy, or we disappoint them. It is our mission and always has been our mission to serve and love each and every customer that walks through our doors. It’s what we do; it’s why we exist. So when a customer stated publicly that our Juniper staff discriminated against her and her party... and refused to seat her because of race this past Sunday, that was pretty hard to hear. Let us first of all say, unequivocally, that we would never, have never and will never deny someone the ability to eat with us because of the color their skin. Nevertheless we understand that given a long history of injustice and mistreatment of people of color in this country that sometimes our lived experiences can look and feel very different from one another’s. But again, let us be clear, it is not what happened on Sunday. Nor will it ever happen at Juniper. Social Media isn’t the place for us to litigate the back and forth of what happened. Simply put, we followed our policies - we turned away a total of 3 large parties on Sunday for the same set of reasons. We acknowledged that these policies are not universally loved by guests, but they are pretty standard for our industry - and are designed to ensure that everyone has the best experience we can provide while staying safe and healthy. Because of the circumstances from last Sunday we think it’s important to take the time, and the space, to clearly articulate what our policies are regarding large parties - the same policies that were articulated and applied on Sunday. 1. We cannot accommodate walk-ins larger than 6 guests. 2. We will nonetheless try, but it might involve separate tables. 3. We do not seat incomplete parties. If only one guest shows, they have to wait until their entire party arrives before they can claim a walk-in table. If another walk-in group arrives, and they are all present, they will be sat first. 4. For reservations larger than 6 you need to call, typically more than a week ahead of time. We will do our best to accommodate, but again, it might be at separate tables. Again, we are troubled that someone would think we would ever turn them away because of their race. We love being a place that welcomes everyone and we will continue to do that. In the meantime, we ask for your patience and we extend ours as we all try to figure out what it means to be together, again.

Y’all, we have been so carefully trying to figure out the best and safest ways to invite you back into our space. We are happy to say that we will be opening up our patio and doors Friday and Saturday nights for our full menu and drinks starting at 5pm! P.s. this is a photo from before covid when no one was masked. We will be masked (and so will our guests) and we will be taking our staff’s health and our guest’s health seriously. We’re just happy to invite you into our wonderful space yet again
